bmw engine runs very hot, and has the highest thermostat opening temp of all

if reliability and blah blah...is one of your concern , walk away

the bmw prince engine is not exactly one of the most reliable engines

u might want to refer to the other citroen/peugeot thread here and read up on the engine problems, bring LOTS of KY lube, there will be enough bricks to build a good class bungalow coming out the rear

twin turbo sound better to boast to innocent xmm to get them up lorry and pikachu later mah

Last time I saw one Ah Beng reading a car magazine in a bookstore, it was an Audi TT review then the specs put "4V Turbo", as in 4 valves per cylinder.

Then the Ah Beng turned to his gf and said loudly, "dear you see, this one got 4 turbo ah!!"

I am using the same block as 118 now. I have nvr try to open bonnet after drive cause i can fried an egg on my bonnet.

Buying used BMW has to be an passionate purchase. It might need more TLC if previous owner did not give it enough.

BMW-SG is getting quiet nowadays. I think a lot of 1 series drivers are not on forum.

True, I think even the monthly meet ups getting less now. Back in 04 it was really buzzing, monthly meet ups usually had 40 over cars and some exotics. Good ol days

I think the best way to check is to get the car you are keen on and arrange to bring it down to one of the conti workshops for inspection (BMW SG sponsers)

As per @davidtch said buying a Bmw really has to about passion at times, my car brand new within 3 months got some weird electronic kokup which cut engine power. It hasn't repeated thankfully, with conti cars mainly issues with age are electrical (wiring fray, circuit board kokup) not to mention valvetronic engine uses stepper motors to control the valve timing or the electric motor controlling the steering etc. Then there is the usual oil leaking, coolant leaking etc common with almost any cars. And these are so called minor issues.

Online sites I suggest ebay, you can original bmw parts from a seller in Lithuania, I believe there is a plant there, M sport steering with airbag used going for 750 usd, 40% of local brand new price. trims also have etc but need someone to install. Body kit better buy local cause need to spray paint.

If you want more advise as I mention best you post the car advert itself or details like mileage owners etc, if the previous chip up the car compared to one that didn't I can guarantee you a world of difference in maintenance haha.

@Rayoflight check this out hehe

Thanks for the reply

Sorry if my questions were vague. Maybe I can rephrase some questions;

1. What are the more common problems that 118 owners faced?
2. I guess it's a engine oil cap. Not oil cap. Have attachéd a picture to be clear
3. Are there any online websites I could buy genuine BMW accessories?

Not at the moment bro, but looking at it shipping from this seller to Singapore is 40 GBP (80 SGD) total is about 470 GBP inc shipping which is about 1K SGD. I reckon if you buy and use and sell when your done can still cover back cost LOL. Last I check you buy local is about 2.5 k ++ if include airbag (no install)

You need to ask someone familiar with steering installation first though on cost and fitment.

Good luck, ever since I had a bmw in 04 the brand and what it stands for stuck with me, if you're a person who loves the drive and don't mind hanging out in garages on occasion find a good car and I trust you won't look back despite minor issues.

Thank you "Mercury1"

Appreciate!
