Bicolor 5th Gear May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 Bottom line, do not go to park, garden or even botanical garden, Mozzies can be anywhere, once bitten, suay ! Stay home man ! Most people contract dengue at home or within residential neighbourhoods. Construction sites are also a prime breeding ground. The Botanic Gardens are actually safer than your own home, especially if your area is currently a dengue cluster
Bicolor 5th Gear May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 i think it's day till late afternoon. night onwards are the common ones. and i heard u won't know if you're bitten by Aedes, no itch It's indeed not as itchy as most other mosquitoes. Furthermore, they are likely to go unnoticed because Aedes aegyptii has a terrible habit of lurking below knee level and biting legs while people are seated. Aedes albopictus, the secondary vector of dengue in Singapore (not so likely to be infected) bites throughout the day, all the way till evening. They are more common in parks and gardens, so they are less likely to carry the virus. Aedes aegyptii, the main vector of dengue locally, may also be active in the evening, but is most active between 5 - 9 am. They are common indoors and many people catch dengue by being bitten in bed. Megatop 3rd Gear June 1, 2013 Share June 1, 2013 This is what the NEA officer told me during a recent home visit. 1. Aedes mosquitoes only breed in clean water. They do not like dirty water. 2. They only need 2cm of clean water to lay their eggs. 3. They only bite during the day. 4. Their bites do not itch or leave any marks.

I read that dengue has been around since 1779 with 50-100 million people infected yearly. Really scary to think that after nearly 250 years, no reliable vaccine has been found. And people still die from a bite. I wonder if it is truly difficult to find its vaccine or lack of medical effort since it is mostly a tropical disease where most western countries are not affected? Anyway RIP. Really sad to hear that.

Voodooman Supersonic June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 (edited) http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...idemic-20130530 A 20-year-old man died on Wednesday from dengue fever, becoming the first person in Singapore to die from the disease during this current epidemic. Mr Ang Yong Han, who recently graduated from the Institute of Technical Education, fell ill on May 22. What started out as a fever later worsened to high fever, and he also felt weak and uncomfortable, said his aunt Madam Yeh, 56, housewife who spoke to Chinese evening papers, Shin Min. He went to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital's (TTSH) emergency department last Thursday and was diagnosed with viral fever. After being given a drip, he was sent home. When his condition did not improve, he went back to the hospital's emergency department again in the wee hours of Friday. But after waiting for five hours, he left to go to a general practitioner near his home, said his mother Madam Yap Geok Kuan, 45. He was eventually admitted to TTSH on Saturday night. By Monday he was transferred to the hospital's intensive care unit, where he died three days later. Mr Ang, an only child, was to have enlisted in National Service on Thursday. He had received blood transfusions in the hospital also had a breathing tube inserted into his chest. His father, Mr Ang, 56, a vegetable wholesaler, said in Mandarin to Shin Min: "He is very filial and often helps me with delivering vegetables. I did not think his fever would be so serious, and he would end up dead. I am heartbroken." I am heartbroken he left after a 5h wait. Was he ever seen by doctor? MOH needs to redefine A&E, 5 hours wait is not reasonable by any standard and doctor has asked him to return if unwell. Voodooman Supersonic June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 dengue pls go private hospital. my friend got it 2 years ago. went private, immediately admit and stay. no sending home until almost a week later. TSS confirmed it won't make a difference if he is warded earlier. So why waste money with private care????
Calford 2nd Gear June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 There is jz not enough RN AND Dr in the dept.... Is there any solution? Ppl jz know how to complain. NYP had already trained more than 10 000 RN so far.... But where are they? Why do we hv to take in 2000 to 3000 RN per year ? Any solution...... Same to Dr.... Health care should not depend on foreign workers, that include RN Dr physio radiographer and more....
Nlatio Turbocharged June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 MOH needs to redefine A&E, 5 hours wait is not reasonable by any standard and doctor has asked him to return if unwell. The problem is.... everyone goes to A&E with fever..... they wont know who is worst till they do a blood test..... now even private also need to wait veri long.... though not as long as Public one..... Unfortunately he did not do the blood test earlier to determine the cause..... else thing might have turn out differently..... Like that time my son was down with fever for a few days.... cannot eat, vomit everything.... goest o GP... tell us fever and cold... take medicine... but no anti-biotic..... after a day or two, still same..... go back GP.... tell us he is better... should be well soon... ask for antibiotic, doctor tell us no need....NBzzz..... Went to KK after nearly a week after his fever...... nbzzz cb...... waiting time at least 5hrs..... bring him to private.... also waited for 2 over hrs.... doctor ask to do a blood test..... found he kena Mycoplasma infection....... need to take antibiotic..... within a day or two... he is well and running about..... The thing is, we dont know.... else will not let him suffer for more than a week.....

Calford 2nd Gear June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 There will be 4 to 5.more acute hospital and at least 6.more step down care hospital coming up by 2030. We will not able to train enough RN , Dr. How? Any solution? The standard of health care is dropping. This is the fact. Any solution?

The problem is there all along but has remained unsolved for some reasons (underspending?), everyone of us could be a victim of insufficient medical resources and beds as you won't know when you will fall sick next and we are talking of human life here. 5 hours wait at A&E is just mind boggling and not acceptable to me. Spending on healthcare has got to go up, even if it means I have to pay more taxes, so be it. We need to train more locals but if it means having to import to cover shortage during interim, get it done. How many die everyday due to this resource issue? Yewheng Twincharged June 2, 2013 Share June 2, 2013 So he is not the only one having to wait 5 hours at A&E? The poors have no choice, your son is luckier. I think there could be some improvement on this. I mean there will sure have cases of people go hospital for non-emergency cases, I.e little bit sickness. Or worst those who want to chao keng take mc for nsf etc. Those can take up precious time slot who need more medical attention. What I feel is those with very minor sickness should not even come join the queue, but instead of go GP clinic or polyclinic see doc. So there should be tough stance on this and spelt out punishment for those who already receive warning for wasting time slot for those who need it more. To eliminate those non-emergency cases and to free up to those who need it more. Thats my 2 cents. ↡ Advertisement
