Reading the description: "The recipe for the Singaporean middle class dream used to read: graduate from university, find a good job, buy a car and move on to private property..."

Problem is, you can have all that, but still be unhappy!!

Thats very true.

A satisfactory sex life is also very important to be happy.

There always people who says grades are secondary but when asked where their children are studying they will either say JC or uni or thise blue chip schools and these very same pple are those professionals holding good degrees, mba or phds. And there will always be pple who believes them. I guess thats how the top separate themselves from the bottom. Yes, goid grades bring u somewhere but good character and good ethics will bring you everywhere...thats what i always say.

I completely agree with you.

But it doesn't apply to gals.

Good gals go to heaven.

Bad gals go everywhere.

People that say communication, teamwork, speaking, ability to present & comunicate, something that we lack badly,

please speak for yourself.

These are things many of us in MCF do not lack.

People that lack these qualities are most welcome to disagree with me.

I was told that these days the younger generation expect their parents to help out for their wedding and housing.

Can you imagine if you are in the middle class and when your kids grow up, they expect the same? [:(]

Anyone that thinks getting good grades is not important

should tell their own children not to do well in exams.

:D

Lol. how true...

I think there should be (if not already) more focus on communication, teamwork, speaking, ability to present & comunicate, something that we lack badly, compare to many 1st world countries in general, & I am not sure if we are even better compare to our ASEAN neighbours.

In nay case, I beleive we still need to improve massively in our skill in communication.

honestly in my opinion, most of the people who can communicate very well can't really work. Cos they spend all their time communicating here communicating there.

in my working life, i would only say only 20-30% of these people are outstanding workers. I rather have the people who just listen and execute -_-

I told my kids I am very happy to help them out for the wedding and housing.

Please invite me to the food tasting and I will be happy to give my opinion

and also please take me for house hunting and I can tell them if I like it or not

and they can just pay for it themselves.

Nothing wrong with being helpful to your kids.

Communicating here and communicating there is something I never do and think its

just a waste of time.

I prefer to spend my time in the office going around here and there chit chatting.

On the contrary, I WILL SPECIFICALLY TELL THEM I WILL NOT HELP even if they know I can afford it.

It seems like the younger generation are just waiting for hand down and help from their parents, no will to fight and strive for themselves.

I do not want to see my kids grow up this way.

My young son is already counting how much I have. I say what I own belongs to me, you have to earn your own. LOL! [laugh]

Agreed. In my previous USA company, they are so obsessed with teleconferencing and mass communication meeting. Yet when it comes to doing actual work, they always Can't do.

I think it's part of the phase of growing up. They will get some backbone along the way if their values are right.

For once MSM is getting the idea right and showcase the failings of our current govt.

Because of their lousy policies, we are getting priced out of our dream housing, our dream cars, our job security is threatened, and we are facing stagnating income with every increasing cost of living.

I think this we all know, probably the Govt knows it, but powerless to do anything about it. And as long as they are unwilling or unable to slaughter some sacred cows, we will continue the downward decline. Alternatively, we need a new govt to do things differently.

I for one seriously feel that not much will change from now till 2016. The middle class will continue to be squeezed and unhappy. The only question is what are they going to do about it?

Agreed! US companies love teleconferencing. Every small matter also want to get every tom, dick or harry onto the conference call. Waste time!

Quality work in Germany?

Somebody forgot to tell the VW DSG designers

and oil drinking Audi engine designers.

But I must admit the Marketing men

are doing a fabulous job.

:D

Bro, can see you are enjoying discussion on this thread, Haha.

Stupid gearbox & engine they make. Singapore's ones are better. I never heard anyone complain about a Singapore made car having gearbox or engine problem. [:p]

Maybe VW do need to perform test in the tropical region, as honestly, I (as an Audi owner) never experience any oil drinking problem.

Its not that you can't be good in both. Not sure the nature of your job, but for the nature of my job, & many pthers I guess, need to communiate & convey your information well, as well as do the job well.

If people who can get by, just by listening & execute, then their job (unless researcher or the like) probably not of high professional level, so its a different context.

Thats a very smart move.

You are a wise man.

:D

You praise I [blush]

I just counted if OT til 9 or 10 every evening, my hourly pay would probably be lower than other offers. The only good thing was can use the job as a catapult to an even higher paying job after a year or so lor.
