The SAF's bomb squad was activated last night (Aug 2) after three explosive rounds from World War 2 were found at a construction site near KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

The rounds were 25-pound shells, and were disposed off in a safe location this morning (Aug 3).

The Singapore Army posted this on its facebook page:

"Three WW2 high explosive rounds found in one night! Last night, our Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), was activated to defuse not one but three war relics found at a construction site near the KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

"The rounds were identical and were assessed to be 25-pounder shells; each shell weighed about 11.5kg, hence the name 25-pounder.

"The 25-pounder guns were able to fire rounds at high-angles as well as in direct-fire mode against tanks and bunkers, and were introduced into service in the British Army just before World War II.

"The SAF still uses the 25-pounder guns but only for ceremonial purposes, such as the NDP, and without the projectile. Working through the night, the rounds were subsequently disposed off at a safe location early this morning.

"Once again, thank you bomb squad for being ever ready. This was truly a blast from the past! To learn more about the 25-pounder gun, visit the Fort Siloso Museum at Sentosa:

You won't believe what was found caught on boat's anchor at SAF Yacht Club

A Stomper said a member of the SAF Yacht Club made a shocking find that was caught on his boat's anchor yesterday (Sep 23) at about 5pm.

The find turned out to be a war relic, which was subsequently safely removed by the SAF's CBRE uniit.

The man made found the relic on his anchor after docking his boat at the club.

The Stomper, a staff at the clubhouse, saw the incident form his office.

He said:

"These photos were taken by my colleague.

"Apparently one of our member went fishing the whole morning and only realised the relic was caught on his anchor when he returned.

Police were subsequently called to the location.

A police spokesperson said:

"Police received a call on Sep 23 for assistance along Tanah Merah Coast Road.

"Upon police arrival, it was established that a war relic was found at the said location.

"SAF CBRE unit attended to the incident.

"CBRE officers safely removed the war relic.

"No danger was posed to the public."

SINGAPORE: A war relic @soya was found at a construction site along Telok Blangah St 31 on Wednesday (Oct 15) evening. Police said they received a call at 7pm.

 

The Singapore Armed Forces' Chemical, Biological, Radiogical and Explosive Defence (CBRE) unit was seen at the site on Thursday, and removed the relic for safe disposal. Channel NewsAsia's cameras caught the detonation at around 2pm. Police said no danger was posed to the public.

 

 

Mr Eugene Yeo, who lives nearby, identified the construction site as that for a new Housing Development Board Build-to-Order project Telok Blangah ParcView.

 

He said there was a huge commotion with military trucks and fire engines driving past on Thursday (Oct 16) morning. He sent pictures of the operation - which he said, lasted the whole morning. He also said police officers went door-to-door to inform residents of the impending detonation.

Ah this was the one I posted about in the other thread. Didn't know it was Soya or I would have stopped and said hi.

 

Also simi commotion, the police and army personnel I saw were just standing around chatting. No exclusion zone or perimeter set-up.

SINGAPORE: A war relic was found in Geylang on Wednesday (Dec 31).

 

Police said they received a call at about 11.05am, asking for assistance along Geylang Lorong 12. When they arrived at the location, it was established that a war relic was found.

 

The Singapore Armed Forces Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosives unit attended to the incident, and the relic was safely removed for disposal.

 

No danger was posed to the public, police said.
