SINGAPORE: Archeologists have discovered around 400kg worth of artefacts at an excavation site at Empress Place, it was announced on Friday (Feb 13).

The site, located right in front of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, is more than 1,000 square metres in size - making it the largest excavation site in the country to date. This makes it just about equivalent to 10 four-room HDB flats.

The excavation is being organised by the National Heritage Board, and it is taking place ahead of the Urban Redevelopment Authority's enhancement plans for the Civic District.

Archeologists on site said some of the artifacts found could be at least 700 years old. The excavation started on Feb 2 and will go on till Apr 9.

Berlin (AFP) - German authorities evacuated around 20,000 people from their homes in the western city of Cologne on Wednesday after a World War II bomb was unearthed during construction work.

The unexploded US-made device, which lay five metres (16 feet) underground and was discovered Friday, was set to be defused later in the day, and river traffic on the nearby Rhine was to be halted during the operation, city officials said.

SAF bomb squad activated after not 1, but 5 dangerous war relics found in Tuas

Posted on 10 September 2015 | 1,208 views | 5 comments

The SAF Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) standby team was activated on Sat (Sep 5) after six suspected war relics were found in the Tuas area.

The team made professional assessments of the relics, and found that five of the relics were dangerous while one was scrap metal.

In a facebook post on The Singapore Army page, SAF explained that the relics were disposed on-site over the night as they were dangerous for handling.

The post also added this message for the standby team: 'Thank you SAF EOD team for keeping our nation safe!"
