Haha I also claimed credit as "engineer": reservist in a boat coy of 35* at Seletar Camp [scholar]

Also patronised Ah Hoe's stall during my time there.

Quite a few bros from there based on the posts in this thread.

You must have been their lifeguard.

30 sce is really shit la. They must have been the last unit in SG using foam mattresses when everyone upgraded to spring.

Our NS path is almost identical brudder.

I still remember what greeted us on the first day of 30.

"Welcome to 30 SCE, welcome to Hell!"

Yeah. It took a while for everything to sink in...

I remember during BMT, we were given a foam mattress with the print "Royal Air Force" on it. We quesstimate that mattress was at least 30 years old.

i heard about this "hell" greeting thing about combat engineer too [sweatdrop] [sweatdrop]

the vocation probably the most siong along with commando, amour infantry and coastal defence?

after BMT we received our posting... my platoon mates who got posted to CE were so damn low morale while they were waiting for the 3-tonner to pick them up

i remember their faces were all [dead] [dead] [dead]

i was lucky to be posted to air defence... relatively easier NS life compared to others

I also remember my PC's words as he read out the names of us posted to CE.

"Now gentlemen, for those of you all posted to combat engineers, you deserve it..."

Don't even know what the vocation is already sian half...

yes, NS life (and reservists too) was better (less siong) than infantry, amour, CE, guards, etc

learnt a lot about aircraft recognition and interesting stuffs like that

although back then, i was hoping to go through jungle training in Brunei (at least once in my lifetime)... but no chance [laugh]

Then how about combat engr and armoured infantry combined = armoured pioneer? That's what I did...

9 wk safincos get one stripe; 5 mth basic engr nco course got second stripe; 3 mth armour (pioneer commander) conversion, plus 3 more mth trained the platoon we were going to lead = 1 yr 5 mth on many siong courses and just a CPL. Spent less than 1 yr in unit before disrupting for studies...

AI not really v siong, c.f. to normal infantry, becos got M113 to sit. As AP (armoured pioneer), we were AI-trained, and were told that we will fight as AI in the event when there's no AI left...

I developed an interest in military aircraft since secondary school days so AR was a breeze for me.

Classes conducted in dark air con room ... Hee ...
