please down look down on people renew 5 years

some renew 5 years simply waiting for what car to buy because nothing motivate them now especially new model coming in 2018/2019

and yes they can renew 10 years and scrap anytime

but why put money into ah gong pocket (next 5 years)

i see those renew 5 years have “intention” to change car before 5 years end

Hi, just want to ask why is re-newing COE for 10 years putting money into ah gong's money?

If i am not wrong, you get back the unused remaining COE if you re-new for 10 years. and its linear, i.e. PQR divide by 10 for every year.

https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/onemotoring/en/lta_information_guidelines/maintain_vehicle/coe1.html

for those who re-new 5 years, you do not get back anything if you scrap the car before 5 years of use. wouldnt that be a concern as you are sort of "committed" by your decision to hold on to the re-newed car for 5 years? and it might be a "worrying" period if during the next 5 years COE prices continue to maintain high and you might be priced out?

and if you chose to scrap the car early before 5 years, you do not get back anything? with PQR now 42k for cat A and 52k for cat B, thats abt 4-5k a year depending on what car you re-newed for, it is still quite a substantial amount.

Just asking cos i am thinking of re-newing my car and want to find out more from senior forumers here if i got my homework correct.

I think owners usually renew 10yrs.

Only those dealer renew their cars 5yrs to make the car price more attractive and easy to sell.

You will be surprise some owners choose this types of car and keeps on changing car.One of my neighbour is doing that and becomes friend with the dealer.I mean same dealer.

Cat A bears full brunt of reduced COE supply from Feb to April

There will be a 7.3 per cent fall in Cat A COE supply, translating to about 3,115 COEs per month, down from 3,360.

All other categories will have around 1 per cent more COEs, except for Cat E, where supply will jump 10.4 per cent, or 107 more each month.

LTA is asking you to buy BIG cars !!!

Why not?

Most big cars have higher VES surcharge right?

So close the gates that make less money (Cat A)

And open the gates that make the most money!

Turbocharged

Overall stated 4% lesser, but since motorcycles and goods vehicle increases, reduction of COEs for cars should be even more than the 4% reported.

Has Uber/Grab and the taxi companies stopped bidding for a long time already?

They used to bid so aggressively, but now got so many empty cars lying around, so must have stopped bidding? And is that a big reason why COE softened in the last few months?

With a shrinking pool, will it cause significant increase, or will it stabilise?

Plus if Uber/Grab finally buay tahan the $$ outlay, and start selling their unused fleet, will there by any impact on the used car market which will indirect put pressure on COE too?
