In 1990, GDP per capita in India (USD 375) actually exceeded GDP per capita in China (USD 314). Both were very poor countries, on a per capita basis.

In 2000, China's GDP per capita powered to USD 950 while India's only grew to USD 458, i.e. China's GDP per capita was not double that of India.

In 2010, China's figure powered ahead to USD 4,433 compared to India's USD 1,417.

According to latest World Bank statistics, China's figure (2013) is now USD 6,807 compared to India's USD 1,498.

China is powering ahead at phenomenal rates. India is stagnating.

Just look at the rapid change in 13 years.

Too much democracy. Imagine having to fight a system where it takes 24 years just to fight someone. In china, they'd probably be able to execute someone in 24 hours.

We should be glad and thank our lucky star that India (and some neighbouring countries) is what it is now. Imaging if they are run efficiently, corruption-free, with the practically unlimited cheap (and smart) labour, what scraps would be left for Singapore to eat?

cheap and smart labour never goes hand in hand..

Applies especially to developed countries.
