Recommendation for Spectacles

I stick to Seiko and Nikon. [laugh] Normally last more than 5 years. Current Seiko already 6 years.

Tried continental frames before, just cannot make it, no matter how they asianize their design and build.

Is this Pearl Optical shop @ PPC cheap and good? Always see droves of people (at least five) in their shop at any one time.

I don't think they are that cheap but they are good. The 老板 of the shop is quite well known among optometrists. I made my previous pair there. But its a tad Marfan to go down there.

I had zeiss lenses in both of my glasses. One got some discoloration or peeling even though its only few years old and I been taking care of it. Went back to hoya this time round.

I used qoo10, because sometimes have $10 coupon. Did a photochromatic lens and frame for less than $130. This guy operates from a office in Jln Sultan complex. Lots of selection of frames. Friendly patience guy, really can take your time there. Didn't top up $55 for the real transition, coz I brought my transition lens to compare with his photochromatic, I find his photochromatic can go darker under same lighting. Rate of change, transition is only slightly faster, don't think it's worth that $55 extra.

I also tried Owndays transistion, and find it weak(not dark enough) under local bright sunlight. I return it for a refund, and the hunt for my new spec from the above qoo10.

My mum made a pair at own days. She seems OK with it.

Spectacle business very competitive.

I think customer service is the key. The shop I went, the other few optician or optometrist, actually I see their pattern I also not too keen.

I quite like owndays also, find it ok, easier to go to them and collect on the spot.

Not really a fan of the current style of glasses. The round type. My glasses very old style one cos I need the temple length to be long (which is not typical for an Asian) Edited by Lala81

I don't think they use Japanese lenses that much over there.

My friend lived in Uk for 1 year, he said very cheap to make glasses there. Maybe price of JB here.

Personally i just feel that MIJ frames are just better. My last 3 frames have been MIJ ones. All titanium.

And they are probably been the best frames I've ever owned.

I am wearing Nike titanium for more than 5 years, went to change the lens once when my laohua increase. Very tough compare to the Rayban titanium i own that broken within a year.

Ownday service ok, but I find the staff too young, lack experience in measuring our eyes.  My son had his eye checked at SNEC.  A few days later we went to ownday branch to get a glass. Their measurement was off the from the SNEC result.  Compare to the one from Qoo10, the ownday's staff is more hurried to get the measurement over.

If you want lasting frame, get those matt black SAF style frame. I am wearing them for donkey years. They are cheap and light. Very ideal for sports and running, as the grip can be adjusted by heating up the leg and bend inwards.

My missus now wears glasses she first bought over 25 years ago in HK.

They are the type with very large lenses.

Those large lenses went out of fashion but now they are back in fashion, I think.

Also her eyes required more power in the lens over the years but now have reverted to her old power.

So because of style and the way her eyes have changed over the years she has saved some dosh by keeping her old glasses in a draw until now. [sunny]

Similar to you, i have been wearing glasses since 4.

As i have high astig for my left eye, i stick 1 optician.

I have been using transition lens for some years.  I don't find it dark enough for me especially in Singapore.

Now, i have prescription polarizing sunglass.

I found a problem with polarised sunglasses.

When I wear them while driving I find the polarising effect makes the HU screen in the car and the clock quite difficult to read.

It happens elsewhere as well.

I won't buy polarised lenses again.

I had some discrepancy from my previous values. My guy triple checked for me to make sure I'm OK with the changes. Also did fundal photo which there were some abnormalities. He helped email it to me, so I can send my eye friend the images. I think just doing this alone over two sessions when I collected my glasses, easily took about 45mins or more. Edited by Lala81

I made several specs from them over several years

They are distributor for Ray-Ban, tag, oaklays and some other brands

A couple times i took oaklay frames

But the last round I went, their oaklay frames were kinda limited

Prices definitely cheaper than most retail shops at shopping malls here

Look for optician Jason.

Where is this huh?

I work nearby so might go take a look...

thanks.

Go take a look.

They are not pushy.

Chat with their friendly staff

Have some drinks there too

Oakleys aren't very durable in terms of like peeling etc from what most people say.

They were very popular in the 2000s then everyone realised the quality is not worth the price.

U can definitely get better frames for the same price u pay for an Oakley (prescription lenses since sunglasses are more for style)

Ya..agree with u

Most frames are not truly comfortable

The the rubber part deteriorates over time.

But had a better price from the shop..so...

i know what you mean. Indeed polarised lens make seeing certain things difficult, although i don't know the physics behind it. even if you look at the rear windscreen of the front car, also will see like purple rainbow shade like that...

But i find it useful when staring at the glaring sun directly leh. Without it, will have to close my eyes smaller, but with it, can see more comfortably.

On the occasions when i drove during holidays in Australia, they are a must.

I beg to differ.

From my experience, Oakley are lasting and value for money.

The worst brand I had for prescription and sunglasses frame are Tag Heuer. Totally not worth the money paid and the distributor sucks.  [knife]

Turbocharged

I only have 1 pair of Oakley prescription.

For the price I paid for the frame, $200+, I find it vfm esp for the grip when I run. Downside is the rubber can't last but there's local one for one exchange for 3 years. After that, if you are still using the frame, can always buy replacement rubber. I bought non authentic ones for $7. If can last 6 to 12 months, I happy already. Real ones are maybe 7 times more expensive but they also will not last 7x longer.

I had 2 pairs of tag huer too. Definitely not as vfm as Oakley.

If nose pad, she can replace for you free.
