Hi guys, i came across this forum when researching abt altis.

 

Will be collecting mine at the end of the month.

 

Do guide me along as it is my 1st time getting a ride.

There's a sticky in the general car discussions section, with a very comprehensive checklist, you can start with that.

When my in laws got their car, they sent for the paint protection whilst it was still in it's clean state.

 

For my own ride, I asked the sales rep to do it before I collect my car. You can do the same or wait, your call, cheers.

My recommendation is to prepare a checklist to test the equipment and what not on your car during collection so you can straight away voice complaints to your salesperson on the spot.

Ensure all your requested material and accessories are in place. Recording cameras, window visors, sills, mats, etc..

Make sure you get all your car's remotes/keys, car manual, tool kits, spare tyre (if any), breakdown sign (if any), things like this. If you don't find them, ask your SE. Sometimes they forget and if you don't ask for it they will never give it to you.

Test as much electronics as you can. Windows, entertainment system, etc.. Look for scratches, paint defects. The more things you can find at the point of collection, the more firepower you have to negotiate compensations or resolutions.

Also budget your time. Car collection can take some waiting around.

And of course, be careful when driving your car home. Most cars advise a break in period, the Altis included - typically, don't over-rev (redline), don't drive it hard, don't lug the engine, don't cruise at one speed - vary your speed and RPM, avoid hard stops to allow brakes to settle in. Usually recommendations are follow these guidelines for about 1,000~1,600km.

 

 

Cars should usually be delivered clean, though it is up to the dealer whether it has a bit of wax on it on delivery. If you intend to detail and wax or apply paint protection systems (PPS, "coatings", "sealants", etc.) to your car, it is best to do so when it is new and as lacking in imperfections as is possible, so as to seal in the 'perfect condition' of the paint with as little contaminants as can be done.

If you intend to fork up the money for professional PPS, most if not all require appointments made in advance, take five hours and most will offer a lower price for a car that is brand new (most consider a <1 month old car as qualifying for discount, some only below 2 weeks, etc.).

Actually the physical check only need an hr or so if u know what to check for.

But have to cater sometime also for the documents that u sign n receive.

Most cases, can leave within an hour. But to be comfortable and check everything thoroughly, I'd allocate at least two and a half free hours to be sure... But I might be subconsciously accounting for travel times...

 

Shouldn't need the whole day.

 

Recommended PPS? MCF has a detailing section with lots of sponsors. Take your pick.

IMO, take half a day off, see the car in daylight, take it like a little fun trip. Don't rush and enjoy the joy of collecting a new ride 

My laws took it like a day trip and brought big and small along to help examine the car.. 

Lots of  PPS options, but ask BM first and see if they will throw it in..

Pro tip; bring a strong flashlight with you. Most of the big dealers will introduce you to your car indoors where lighting may not be excellent. With a bright flashlight you can inspect your paintwork, exterior and interior crevices more thoroughly.

 

It's also advisable to always keep one such flashlight in your car for emergencies.

 

 

Looking forward to your first car is a fun experience and I hope it goes well for you.

When are you collecting it, or have you got no date set yet?

 

OH. Oh yes. I forgot. If you are still a probation driver (<1 year), you are going to want to buy your triangle plate in advance and bring it with you. Unless your dealer was kind enough to throw it in for you.

Even if you are past 1-year, I would still advise you to get a probation plate, especially if you have not driven since your achievement of your license.

agreed on the flashlight if you are very particular, collected my car last week, did not spot anything, went to the detailer right after i collected my car as i booked an appointment..  he take a flashlight and pointed out 4 minor scratches on the car that you usually would not be able to spot and a thumbnail print on my solar film.. but as it was quite minor, decide to leave with it.. after all, you cannot see it unless you shine bright light at the spot and from a particular angle..

Of course, flashlight is only if you are especially concerned about vehicle condition. Some of us have lower standards than others and do not require perfect condition. If you do not have a flashlight, your phone's camera LED may also suffice. Unless it's like mine and miserably dim.

 

I believe approved posts just mean you have to attain that many posts without moderators stamping you out. You're on the right track so far, it also helps if you get praised.

 

Don't worry about it. If you emergency need to ask a question and are bumping against your limit, don't be too afraid to PM someone if you think they can answer your question.

End of day, try to book a detailer early. I did mine the moment I collected my car. Am happy with it :)

For first time owner car collection you may want to cater some time for car accessories shopping.

 

There's 3M car mat authorised distributor nearby and autobacs.

 

Petrol is only about 10L. You maye want to top up and get the loyalty card.

 

Essential Shopping list includes

Battery water

Tyre pressure gauge

Quick detailer for wiping bird poo

Microfiber cloth

Extended mirror if not elegance model

And most importantly, child seats, if u have kids

 

There's no need for torch light, if u really want, the on site detailer have it. Your perfect car condition will be marred by water stain, stone chips, bird poo, inconsiderate people who ding your door when they open theirs

 

This is from someone who washes and polishes his own car. Don't worry too much about minor defect that surfaces during very close scrutiny

i did it when i read the user manual. but choose to remove the battery instead. juz in case, the battery leaks and dmg the circuits.
