HdBanger 1st Gear July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 (edited) I am servicing my first 1000 k now. The BM service personnel told me that my 3m car mat will choke the air con and later left a stale smell in the air con. He wanted to throw my 3m car mat on the spot but I stopped him. Any not using 3 m car mat for their car ? I dun wan to use the lousy Toyota car mat I dun think it will be this price if u buy from the shop i use a 3m style car mat in my ride. there was a smell from the mat initially. affected the first 5-10sec when on aircon in cold start. when you sun/air/clean your car mat regularly, the smell will go away. then aircon will be ok. mine's pretty much ok now. i like to see if they throw my mat away when i go for my 5k checkup. ps: for those who have foul smell due to 3rd party carpet. one way is to turn off the recycle air button when turning on the aircon first thing in morn. after a few mins then turn recyle button back on. do it for a few wks, shld decrease much of that smell. Question on gear changing when car is stopping: When your car stop at a traffic light or in a jam, do you... 1. Keep gear at D and hit the foot brakes 2. Keep gear at D and pull hand brake 3. Change gear to N and pull hand brake, only changing back to D when you are moving. I usually will do 3 but not sure whether it is good for the car. Any advice? 3. often. but no handbrake. footbrake. 7hm Turbocharged July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 Question on gear changing when car is stopping: When your car stop at a traffic light or in a jam, do you... 1. I usually will do 3 but not sure whether it is good for the car. Any advice? most people do no.1, I normally change to N at my last few km/h so i can stop more gently (less of the "pull back" feel) then continue to hold brakes. Sometimes I will pull handbrake then release footbrake... sometimes I end up holding the footbrake even if I pull up my handbrake. Nah, don't ask, I'm just weird. But lately I've been seeing a lot of older cars ... or taxis, they go the extra mile to engage P instead... How I know? Their reverse lights flash for a moment whenever they stop... Anyways for me my logic is that I prefer to standstill in N because D means the transmission is still applying force (at least in conventional torque convertor types), which I feel is unnecessary forces when at standstill. Only has a point imo if you are expecting a sudden rear collision (if you got super reaction time... switch to D to get your engine brake!). Otherwise your brakes are just fighting this force for no good reason... to me. Lot of people think it's unnecessary, perhaps it is... do what makes you feel comfortable, there's not really major right/wrong in this topic ... except engage N and no handbrake when your car can start rolling
Kangadrool Supersonic July 18, 2015 Share July 18, 2015 maybe you want to google how conventional slush box works. I remembered reading somewhere that it's actually exerting more force (inside the gearbox-transmission fluid pressure building up) when in Neutral than in Drive. That's why car makers suggest leave it on D while waiting at the traffic junctions. most people do no.1, I normally change to N at my last few km/h so i can stop more gently (less of the "pull back" feel) then continue to hold brakes. Suspect is brake pad not fitted correctly or need some greasing 😮
