About proper inflation of Tires

Hi, all Toyota Owners I am just wanna to share my experience here.

This morning I sent my 4-wheelers to BM for 5K service. As usual during the services they would check and inflate the tires for you. But they don’t follow the manufacturer’s recommendation. According to the car manual, the recommended tire pressures are front 32 psi and rear 30 psi (i.e. 220kPa and 210kPa respectively).

This evening after the tires cool down, I went to the petrol station to check the tire pressure of my car, again I found that my front tires were inflated with 34 & 35 psi on each side and the rear tires were 36 & 37 psi on each side. It was much higher pressure than the recommendation :a-bang:

From the 1K services, I had already noticed the differences in the tire pressures that's why this time I check again. I am wondering why they don’t do a proper inflation of the tires according to the recommendation :a-confused:

Would anyone have any comment on this?

Thank you.

Which service centre?

I take tyre pressure as a small matter as I can solve it myself.

If you want BM to solve it,  just go to the website and send a feedback.

Previously, BM likes to give me "extra" engine oil.  After a few feedback, revisit, and reminder during servicing, seems to be Ok.

Tyre pressure is actually quite subjective to determine when the tyre is not dead cold.

The pump at SPC near my place,  seems likely to give me extra pressure.  After I drive a short distance, I increase about 3 Kpa to compensate and it feels over-inflate.  So now I keep to exact which seems alright.

Good morning to ALL

Which service centre? - Pandan Service Centre

I take tyre pressure as a small matter as I can solve it myself. - agree that it is a small matter. If the 4 tires are inflated with the same pressure is still can be accepted.  BUT if they are inflated with difference pressures I think it is not acceptable.  Worst is they inflated the rear tires pressure much higher than the front. Usually the front should be higher because it carry the engine and other compartments.

If you want BM to solve it, just go to the website and send a feedback. - I may consider to feedback because this may caused excessive and uneven wear of the tires and poor handling as well as tire damage from the road hazards, etc.

Tyre pressure is actually quite subjective to determine when the tyre is not dead cold.- that's why I re-check after 3 to 5 hours. Usually I check the tire pressure in the Sunday morning when the tires are cold.

The pump at SPC near my place, seems likely to give me extra pressure. After I drive a short distance, I increase about 3 Kpa to compensate and it feels over-inflate. So now I keep to exact which seems alright. - thanks for the info

BM is not an ordinary Workshop, it is a Service Agent of all Toyota Cars and they should at least follow the standard recommendations. I put up this posting is to share especially those new car owners are aware of and to recheck their tire pressures after servicing.

Thank you and have a nice weekend to ALL :)

IMHO, it is very unlikely that BM pump higher than recommendations. I used 34 psi. I pump air @ Esso & @ SPC. I feel that the SPC @34psi seems higher compare to @ Esso & @ BM. My feel comes from ride. The ride become more bumpy and etc. If free, drop by BM and ask them to recheck.

BM told me that new car are normally pump with very high PSI from factory as they are not sure when the car will be sold. I do not know why they don't lower the tyre to spec when new owner collect the car. During my 5k servicing, they lower my tire psi to spec.

Which is why it is usually not recommended to pump the tyres when they are hot.

I do get uneven pressure at times but only 2Kpa, not PSI.

I requested for them to pump nitrogen for my tyre today. After the pump my tpms showed same reading for all 4 wheels though. Guess prolly need to request for the SA time help to ensure bah.

Yep, would never pump when they are hot. Anyway once bitten twice shy, I would recheck the tire pressure after servicing when they have cool down :)

Yeah, re-check is important.  I specific not to pump.  [laugh]

Actually, I do (pump when hot) quite often because it is extremely routine and time specific.

That said, nothing beats the "feel" when I take a slow drive to the petrol station in the cold morning and pump.

I have a setup with a 12V heavy duty pump but it is a hassle and besides, it is analog.

Contemplating to invest in a digital one but not sure how robust and accurate it will be.

Hi Guys, Just to update on the rough engine and jerking feeling. The car went back back to the smoothness when I first collect the car for 1 week now. I did nothing since I am schedule for servicing next week. Cold start in the morning and normal driving feel right. I guess it might be the ECU adjusting itself due to the unusal traffic jam I was caught in.

Anybody can do me a favour to upload a snapshot of the user manual detailing the engine oil spec meant for the engine?

my manual is in the car/workshop for servicing. the fella at Borneo told me he is using W50 wtf

I want to gather some evidence before going back to bang table later.

Thanks!
