i once send in for svcing to a major AD and the return mileage was +90KM, i know because i always reset my trip A daily.

i dun gey kao on the petrol but i jus want to know where my car went.

i ask them why, service manager say was testing out problem.

i ask wad problem, he say he duno he need to check, i say theres no problem, i send in for svcing, i did not complain any problem, jus kept saying sorry.

send in a email, they call back say its part of the testing route, i say ur testing route from leng kee to changi n back (assuming 45km 1 way) ? no reply.

Say want gimme petrol and carwash voucher, i say save it, i got other things tat requires more of my attn.

from then on, i have a habit of snapping my odometer, call me cynical..

Why you got no car camera?

If have, you will know exactly what happened. Like those valet at RWS that took a ferrari out for joy ride. The car camera also recorded the conversation of the valet boasting to his colleague that he drove many different types of super car.

If you have $50 in your wallet now and 5mins of time, you have video evidence. No talk, see video. Can even post in stomp and TNP to claim $100 voucher. More than enough ROI for your car camera. -_-

Hi Bros,

I have a hypothetical question and it goes like this.

Usually after servicing my car at a certain workshop, the mechanic would take the car for a test drive to see if there are any problems with the car after servicing.

So what happens if:

1) During test drive, something else breaks down after servicing? (eg. radiator pipe burst, suspension noise starts to appear, tyre kenna nail puncture, etc.)

2) During test drive, the mechanic met with an accident with my car and my insurance doesn't cover him? Who is gonna pay for the damages?

Appreciate your valuable advice/comments. Thanks.

if test drive got accident, normally claim insurance,

if got parts fail must see related to wat u do or not.

eg1: basic servicing, replace e.o and oil filter only, u complain got sound, mech go test drive, happen 1 water pipe burst along the way.

u cannot blame him right?

but if something like oil leak happen, forget to tighen filter, filter got hole, then its his full responsibility

Practically, WS have the Insurance to do Test Drive on 3rd parties vehicle in case of any mishap. All this are part of value added service, checking and making sure everything is good to go. no unusual abnormal noise. Also ones have to be truthful to yourself, knowing that your suspension, hose or any parts had already done certain mileage and you have not change it then its so HENG that it give way, just change it.

There no right or wrong in ws doing Test Drive, if you uncomfortable then inform ws earlier or tell the SA that you will follow him.

Turbocharged

For scheduled service - not that I mind, but there is no need to do a test-drive.

if it is a "wheels off" service (new brake pads, rotor skim or similar) I would expect the mechanic to do a testdrive

If parts replacement / suspension / similar I expect a test drive

If is something like starter motor - then there is no need.

Workshops have insurance for testdrives

90km is waaaaay to far for any reasonable testdrive - they were using the car for something

Neutral Newbie

Actually, it is not compulsory (by law or otherwise) for a workshop to have 3rd party insurance. So some have and some don't have.

Yes workshop has this "big insurance" ( translate in hokkien) that covers cars driven by authorised staff.

At least thats wad i was told by my bike workshop because consumer bike insurance covers only "named rider" and sub rider only for pte bikes

smart ones may unplug ur car cam before svc.

iirc, for AD and Stamford (wc I've patronised), the service advisor will test drive to ensure everything ok, not the mech. mayb is for those small ws where no svc manager / advisor then mech will test drive I suppose.

Thatz why I have two car cameras. The AD mechanic disconnect one while he was driving it ard. But the other and rear camera still recording. I can see where they driving to.

But for my AD(Komoco), the only time they did test drive was when I changed brake pad. They drove it one round leng kee, the usual test drive route. Normal servicing, they just drive the car ard different levels for servicing and washing at basement. No exciting video clip to post.

I am not sure whether the Mechanic test-drive my car. Normally I think if got test-drive, should be the technical advisor and not mechanic. Anyway my car is Nissan and I know Nissan got a very strict Technical Manager. He will fire any mechanic that anyhow.
