  4. Hi all anybody got reliable mechanic to recommend if I want to diao one (JDM) Honda EK3 engine (+ harness, electrical....so that everything works properly) into my vehicle? Of course the mech should have lobang to source the engine from Jap. Ever since I fried the engine and did top overhaul, I still have niggling issues with the engine after all the repairs and figured the best thing is to change the heart, some minor organs and arteries. Gum siah anybody who have recommendation. Gum siah!
  5. Hi Bros, I have a hypothetical question and it goes like this. Usually after servicing my car at a certain workshop, the mechanic would take the car for a test drive to see if there are any problems with the car after servicing. So what happens if: 1) During test drive, something else breaks down after servicing? (eg. radiator pipe burst, suspension noise starts to appear, tyre kenna nail puncture, etc.) 2) During test drive, the mechanic met with an accident with my car and my insurance doesn't cover him? Who is gonna pay for the damages? Appreciate your valuable advice/comments. Thanks.
  6. Hi all, Does anyone know of any schools or institutes which offers courses in how to service motor vehicles or cars? For now only one I know about is ITE, the course is a little brief. Would welcome some suggestions from all, thanks! Cheers!

  8. bloody hell! Made an appointment yesterday morning to change EO at AV. Took 2 hours and not cheap compared to my previous WS. $100 for some unknown brand of oil + workmanship. Told him car boot lock cannot open with car key but in the end he could not fix it saying I have to look for a locksmith!!? This morning just discovered he swap my car mats and gave me 4 old raggedy ones with one having a big hole size of a fist. KNN! Champion liao lor. (<-- hint for you to avoid) Now I don't know whether he did change my EO at all and what he put in. Going back to my regular WS next week to redo the EO.
  9. Just curious abt this. In local workshops, usually the mechanic is malaysian, so I wonder how much is their pay.. E.g. for 20min to 30min of mechanic's time to change engine oil, labour charge abt $20 to $30. For 45min to 1 hr job to change suspension, workshop charge abt $80. So based on this, the mechanic can earn the workshop abt $60-$80 per hour. If workshop business is good, do non-stop, 8 hours day = $480 to $640 a day. So I wonder how much of this is to pay for workshop overheads, e.g. rental, utilities, and how much is mechanic's pay... I guess it is quite low, given the strong S$... maybe like $10 to S$20 per hour for mechanic? Mechanic pay abt S$100 a day? S$2-3k a month? Up for discussion here. And pls give amount in S$ not RM ok...

  12. 1. Oil light came on. Check engine oil level and the engine oil level is OK. So not due to oil running low. 2, Oil light came on and persist. So took car to a workshop in Ubi for repair. 3. Mechanic jacked up car ....found oil sump leaking....gasket failed. So need to remove oil sump for new gasket and sealant. And need to change oil pressure switch. So left car at the workshop for repair, includes Engine Oil change service and to collect in the evening. Boss of workshop sms later: Hi Sir, tis is from the Workshop. Our man is checking through the car during servicing n find your clutch wearing out soon. Based on the wear rate, the vehicle milage should be approximately 140-150K. THe clutch pedal is giving quite a bit of squeaking sound as a result. Would U like to replace it? Thks. Is it possible to see the clutch disc or plate worn out through the oil sump removal and through the Flywheel?

  16. A mechanic was removing a cylinder-head from the motor of a Harley motorcycle when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his bike when the mechanic shouted across the Garage, 'Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?' The cardiologist, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, repair any damage, and then put them back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I make $39,675 a year and you get the really bigbucks ($1,695,759) when you and I are doing basically the same work ?" The cardiologist paused, smiled and leaned over, then whispered to the mechanic... "Try doing it with the engine still running."

Just came back from Servotronic and it's a solenoid problem as Yeobh has predicted... It's going to cost me $1,000 to fix... I need a second opinion on this... Anyone can recommend please?
  21. I would like to find out from you guys. Do you insist that your mechanic must issue you official receipts after each repair? Among the few ws I visited, only Lee Sheng and CAS issue proper receipts for each service/repair. Do you dare to visit ws which doesn't issue proper receipts?
  22. Hi Been to my regular mechanic for few times but still couldn't solve it.....finally says its "older car its likedat one, gotta accept it". Transmission fluid changed, gears lubricated etc problem still comes back. Anyone can recommend a honest mechanic that can service manual transmission? Thanks. PS: The problem is that when I change gear, the gear seems rough when i release as well as enter at gear level, like not well lubricated like dat.
  23. for simple engine oil change only. cheap and good?
  24. My car has been towed into the mechanic's garage last Saturday evening. I was travelling out of BKE into Diary Farm Road where I tried to down shift from 5 to 4. Suddenly, no matter which gear I engaged, there was no power transmitted although the engine was running. The entire gear shift was like 'jelly' feel. No choice, I let my car drift towards a side kerb, off Petir Road (the new extension) and called the tow truck. My mechanic told me that something could broken within the gearbox. Now, awaiting the verdict and parts indent. Looks like its gonna cost me a bomb.
