that's politics, bro... ha ha ha.... they do have ever growing problem.... as the companies which are causing forest fire were owned and approved one way and another by big fish in financial sector as well as government officials...

Some old report for reference....

How Sinar Mas is pulping the planet
Publication - 6 July, 2010
A new investigative report from Greenpeace, 'How Sinar Mas is Pulping the Planet', shows how major brands like Walmart, Auchan and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) are fueling climate change and pushing Sumatran tigers and orang-utans towards the brink of extinction.

These companies are using or selling paper made from Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), part of the notorious Sinar Mas group that is destroying Indonesia’s rainforests and carbon-rich peatlands.

Greenpeace investigated two important rainforest areas on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and discovered that Sinar Mas is wreaking environmental havoc in both. The Bukit Tigapuluh Forest Landscape is one of the last refuges for endangered Sumatran tigers and orang-utans. Kerumutan’s carbon rich peatlands are a key defence against climate change; some of the forest’s peat is deeper than three meters and thus illegal to clear under Indonesian law. Sinar Mas' paper arm APP uses the logs from these rainforest areas to feed its Sumatran based pulp mills, which export pulp and paper products worldwide.

These are just two of many important rainforests being decimated by Sinar Mas for pulp and paper and palm oil expansion. Indonesian President Yudyohono's new commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation will be undermined unless he extends the moratorium on new deforestation licenses to cover all forest and peatlands that are currently slated for destruction by Sinar Mas and other companies.

Several leading companies have already responded to Greenpeace evidence of the Sinar Mas group’s illegal and destructive environmental practices in Indonesia and are cancelling their contracts with the Indonesian palm oil and paper giant. Greenpeace is calling on the rest to follow suit.

http://www.todayonline.com/world/asia/indonesia-president-heads-jambi-haze-begins-clear

The [West Tanjungjabung] district spans an area of 600 hectares, of which 200 was burned in September,” said Mr Irman, Jambi’s acting governor.

“The remaining 400 hectares need to be rescued from spreading fire. Construction of the canal must therefore continue.”

The pessimist in me read this as 1/3 done only, 2/3 more to go.

Malaysian Muslims seek divine intervention to end haze crisis

AFP News28 minutes ago

Muslims throughout Malaysia on Thursday were urged to seek divine intervention to help clear smoke from Indonesian forest and agriculture fires that have choked Southeast Asia for weeks.

Religious authorities called on Muslims to hold special sessions to appeal to the almighty, following the usual Friday afternoon prayers.

"Our country is facing a continuing haze phenomena. It has created fear and concern among the people due to its health impact," Othman Mustapha, head of the Department of Islamic Development, a government agency, said in a Facebook posting.

"The aim is to pray that the haze that we are facing will end quickly."

Similar prayers were held during a previous outbreak of the annual haze problem.

Smoke from illegal slash-and-burn farming in Indonesia has plagued Singapore and Malaysia for weeks, causing school closures, the cancellation of flights and sports events, and widespread respiratory problems.

The blazes are an annual occurrence during the dry season. But scientists have warned this year's haze is on track to become the worst ever due to tinder-dry conditions from the El Nino weather phenomenon.

Indonesia agreed Thursday to accept international help to combat the blazes, in an about-face after weeks of failed attempts to douse the fires, which have infuriated its neighbours.
