Worst interview moment?

Anybody in human resources ( HR ) or encounter similar experience can provide advice.

Recently, I sent some ( 2 or 3 ) resumes out direct the companies to apply for job opening they have.

Now, 1 of my ex-colleague from my ex-company told me that "somebody / someone" contacted him recently to "ask about me". My ex-colleague told me "the person" apparently was doing a reference check on me. None of the companies have called me nor invited for interview. Blind reference check ? My ex colleague also does not know who and from where the caller ?? No head no tail, he asked me wat job/ company I applied...does reference check caller reveal their details????

Wat does this mean ?

usually when i put in a reference, i will inform them that i used them as my references in my resume.

this will arrest any surprise on their part when they are called by the companies that i applied for job with.

it is only polite to do that. no?

what this means is that, some one is doing their homework, and that you are being viewed as a possible candidate.

so, be happy about it.  [;)]

Many years ago I was sitting on an interview panel to hire someone whose salary starts from SG $40,000.

We had this relatively young guy who is well connect came into the interview room. He sat down on the chair and first thing he did was to complement the lady in the panel on how beautiful she was.

Guys, if one of strategy is to flatter, there are many more other subtle ways.

so.. did he get the job or not?  :wut:

Bro, there is no surprise as I did not even list any reference in my resume. I never list reference in all my resumes.

Wat is more alarming is they way the HR does their homework and they managed to "dig out" someone who worked with me before. Furthermore, even when filling the hard copy application forms, usually I would list others if need be.

Truly amazing HR prowess..blind background anonymous C.S.I detective checks !!!

think LinkIn, Facebook, Jobstreet... all of them got some form of linkages before.

further more, HR to HR, they may share such info between them to ensure that the info you put in the resume is not BS. (ie salary figures, position... etc etc).

they are a resourceful bunch.

Just simply google..name, contact number and some information will come out if the candidate has been long enough in the market...especially sales people...they switch job or company will pull customer away....very dangerous!!

Surely his salary won't be on the internet as well...

Position - a lot of what you google comes from linkedin and is input by the candidate themselves.

if your info is public, PDPA does not apply liow.

try googling your own name... you'd be surprise what you will find!

S$40,000 a month is a lot. When the person leaves can tell me?

I would like to apply. Maybe I am not qualified for the job

but that never stopped Trump.

One of the most straight to the point interview

"Your cv looks just like the other 20 sent to me. I don't have any questions for you. Just tell me, in 2 mins, why I should hire you over the other 19"
Yeah. They Shld also rem I am interviewing them as well

I have no interest to work for bullshiit people too asking idiotic questions

Too old for such crap

If its good looking syt asking this question,

I would offer to sleep with her. As a lesbian

I have the advantage of being able to do that.

If its a man then have to leave this to a gay man.

yeah. i know. there are some fellas that are dumb enough to put their current or past salary in their profiles.

i have came across a few in LinkedIn before.

there are also some who put their expected salary in their profiles in Jobstreet as well.

So from there you can make guesses.

if it is publicly viewable (aka via a simple google search), the PDPA dun really apply.

given that the circle we work in is small, i won't be surprised if HR share such info among themselves.  [;)]

Looks like in most interviews the hirer is not asking relevant questions. Imo HR shouldn't be the one conducting the interview unless it's the HR dept who is hiring help. Meaning the relevant dept should conduct the interview when they are hiring. From most comments here it doesn't turn out to be so.

HR hiring personel can be present but the relevant dept manager should do most of the questioning. Putting someone who is not relevant to him/her the 20 candidates will no doubt all look the same and not ask questions that matter. Finding out who is most suitable for the job. What a waste of everyone's time.

The unfortunate thing happening today with HR is that many companies think such task can be contracted out to a recruitment agency.  These agencies will just throw anyone they can get hold of to secure that contract.

The other problem is when the employing department send someone who is clueless of the role they are employing to conduct the interview and selection. Then it is all base on paper. The academic, past organization, number of years, etc.

Very often, coming from a big organization with many years experiences have their limitation. These people may be involved in very specific role and limited exposures due to the fact that they have stayed too long in that organisation. Another candidate coming from a smaller organization may multi tasks since the organisation is smaller. If he has joined more companies, he has more exposures too. Without the relevant knowledge, you would not be able to pick these up during an interview.

Not true also. HR outsources this to the recruitment agency so they have lesser workload. If the agency keeps dumping unsuitable CVs to HR, you think they will continue to be used?
