A recent research report from online home rental company Spotahome ranked 89 global cities by key health factors such as life expectancy, work life balance, and days of annual leave. And while Singapore came out as the city with the world’s second highest life expectancy, researchers explained that it lost the top spot to Tokyo solely because of its poor annual leave numbers. The country came in dead last out of 89 cities for vacation leave, meaning people from every other city – including Hong Kong, New York and Seoul – had more vacation days on average. While statistics were generally taken from the UBS Global Cities Ranking 2018, a spokesman explained to Business Insider that Spotahome used Singapore’s state-mandated 7 days minimum annual leave as its data point. The researchers acknowledged that Singaporeans get between 7 to 14 days annual leave – depending on an employee’s years of experience – but this number was still “low compared to other countries” and could have a “negative impact on overall life expectancy”. The highest scorer for annual leave was the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, with 37 vacation days.

I'm just wondering which taxi company do you think have the most amount of bad taxi drivers. In my opinion its comfort/city cab, they are the ones weaving through traffic, stop suddenly without signalling. I think even in most accidents involving taxis, the comfort/city cab are most likely to be involved. Anyone with other opinions?

Very curious here as I think most drivers will listen to the radio on the way to work. having worked overseas, i am quite shocked by the standard of our morning shows though i can understand to an extent why, with our strict censorship here. so i would like to know the consensus of you guys. i am only choosing the more popular stations here for drivers; i am aware of more english morning shows. personally, comparatively speaking, I do think Kiss is doing the best. the chemistry between the DJs is strong and they come across as very genuine. second would be 913 with Glenn and FD. They started out well but are declining as I think their shows are not really prepared beforehand. So they just say whatever that comes to mind or simply topic of the day. And it does come across as lazy and lacking effort at times. But well they too have a good chemistry. I find it hard to decide which is the worst, Class 95 or Gold. Class 95 with Vernon and Justin do make an effort on their show. However, their jokes can be stale and so 90s. And I find it a bad match for Class 95. They probably do better with a channel that targets the younger crowd. I find their jokes to be a bit crass at times. Gold with Mike and Vernetta likewise, is quite awful. Vernon and Justin, however crass, can come up with smart jokes now and then. However Mike and Vernetta come across as trying way too hard and mostly falling flat with their banter. Quite cringe worthy very often. And really, i find them a poor fit for a station with a more mature audience. in a nutshell, i find that Vernon, Justin, Mike and Vernetta all caught in a time warp, so stale and tired. i hope there are newer DJs that will shake the roost a bit. probably the only industry where it's the same old faces for sooo long lol

Yesterday went to Dunlop St to have steamboat for dinner at One Pot. Wanted to park along the street but it's very hard to find a lot during dinner hours. And it's pretty hard to drive through the road as it looks quite narrow. Also many people there and nearly knocked down a guy. I also wonder how to park the parallel lots as I think the roads are too narrow to maneuver into the parallel lot. In the end, went to park at the open carpark at Weld St. A few years back, also in the same area, Little India, I parked on one of the streets and my friend opened the door and banged on the high kerb. Luckily no scratches and it's my old car. I noticed some parallel lots in these areas tends to be harder to park. Do you guys encounter the same problems?

Carparks that make you want to scream Some carparks at Singapore shopping malls are enough to drive one crazy. From corkscrew ramps and maze-like lanes to bottleneck entrances, motorists face some paint-scraping obstacles in their effort to park their precious wheels. That is going by comments from miffed motorists and a check by LifeStyle reporters to find the best and worst carparks. One driver, financial analyst Leow Chee Khiang, 28, says of Shaw House's carpark, notorious for its narrow lots: "Unless you have a convertible or your car comes with a sunroof you can climb out of, don't bother parking there." Ms Tracy Chua, 33, a sales supervisor, recalls: "The worst carpark is at Plaza Singapura.It always has a long queue on weekend evenings. Waiting time is close to 20 or 30 minutes." So why do glitzy malls make it so difficult to actually park there in order to do your shopping? Architects LifeStyle spoke to point out that carpark design is low on the list of priorities compared to making the most of a mall's retail area. That translates to having a functional carpark that can accommodate enough vehicles to maximise space. Ease, comfort and driving satisfaction may take a backseat. The former president of the Singapore Institute of Architects, Mr John Ting, says: "Carparks may be more of a necessity than a luxury to developers. But what's best for the developer may not be best for the driver." Still, some carparks have gone out of their way to cater to shoppers who drive. For example, Paragon Shopping Centre has installed a Parking Guiding System which has electronic red and green lights that indicate whether lots are vacant. It has also put in wheel stoppers -cement blocks on the floor at the back of the carpark lot to prevent cars from reversing into the wall - for better parking. The cost for the lights and stoppers was $500,000. Although some drivers say the sensors do not always work, a spokesman says the mall has received "no complaints to date". As for the problem with narrow lots at Shaw House, a spokesman for the mall promises users that "there will be renovations",but details have not been confirmed. Still, as long as there are shoppers wanting to drive to the malls, there will be gripes about parking, it seems. Take Ngee Ann City, popular for parking because of its central location along Orchard Road. It says it has not encountered any issues with its carpark, but shopper Ryal Wun, 43, a corporate consultant, says: "Getting to the carpark can take some time. There are long queues along the road leading in, complete with angsty cabbies who have had a bad day." Civil servant Belle Lin, 26, adds: "There is just too much winding down and up. It is dangerous and can make people feel sick." Architect Ting acknowledges that winding ramps, while space-maximising, might be disorienting for the driver: "It can get monotonous. Sometimes you are only up to the sixth floor but you feel like you are on the 16th floor." Far East Organization, developer of Central mall in Eu Tong Sen Street - which has a winding ramp that winds up drivers -tempers too- says it has incorporated features such as wide space and good lighting, plus colours for 'visual relief'. Huge carparks may be a boon to drivers, but some say it is too easy to get lost. Mr Tan Kok Hiang of Forum Architects notes that VivoCity and Suntec City -have few underground landmarks to orientate and colour (zoning) in itself is seldom useful. Mr Ting agrees, saying: "There are also too many rows of lots in Vivo. It's like a banana plantation." He says carpark design should follow the 'Three S's safety, security and simplicity. The first is safe traffic flow and parking,the second is about providing good lighting conditions and ease of finding vehicles, and the third is about overall convenience for the driver. Forum Architects' Mr Tan predicts: 'With more discerning shoppers to woo, I suspect more attention will be paid to carpark design in future.' They often run along the lines of: "Despite its good brakes, a BMW will usually stop with a jerk." Sometimes, the language is more colourful. Now scientific research supports the unwritten and broadly circulated theory that people in BMWs are lacking in road manners. Paul Piff, a researcher at the Institute of Personality and Social Research at the University of California, Berkeley, has conducted a study linking bad driving habits with wealth. The traffic study, part of a larger body of research relating behaviour and wealth, pitted pedestrians against passing motorists. It was published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2010. In California, where the study was conducted, state law requires motorists to stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are present, allowing them to cross the road. Mr Piff said that his team selected a specific crosswalk to observe, then had a pedestrian appear on the edge of the curb as a car approached. As the pedestrian stepped into the road, a researcher marked down the driver's reaction to the pedestrian. This was done with 152 drivers. The team also watched a four-way-stop intersection over a week, noting how likely drivers were to cut in front of others when it was not their turn to go. In their observation of 274 cars, the researchers found that the more expensive ones were more likely to jump their turns in the four-way rotation, Mr Piff said. In addition to describing drivers' behaviour in both locations, the researcher was to indicate the sex and age of each driver as well as the age and appearance of the cars, with a "1" signifying beat-up, low-value cars and a "5" given to top-of-the-line models from the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Mr Piff said about eight of every 10 cars "did the right thing". "But you see this huge boost in a driver's likelihood to commit infractions in more expensive cars," he said. "In our crosswalk study, none of the cars in the beater-car category drove through the crosswalk. They always stopped for pedestrians." The study also found that male drivers were less likely to stop for pedestrians than were women, and that drivers of both sexes were more likely to stop for a female pedestrian than a male one. Rachel Lynn Lehnardt, 35, from Evans, Georgia, was arrested on Saturday night and has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The details of the drunken party emerged when Lehnardt met with her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor last Friday and told her about the wild party. The sponsor then contacted authorities. She told the woman that her children, who are aged between four and 16, were with their father when her oldest daughter texted her to ask if she could bring over some friends. Lehnardt allegedly responded: 'Come on, let's party', WJBF reported. When the teenagers arrived, she allegedly allowed them to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana in her home, before she played naked Twister with them in the living room. While the youngsters continued playing, she allegedly went into a bathroom and had sex with an 18-year-old man, the sponsor told authorities. When she returned, she brought out sex toys and started to use them on herself in front of the teenagers, she told her sponsor, Augusta Crime reported. She later went to bed alone and around 3.30am, she awoke to find someone having sex with her, she told her sponsor. 'She stated at first she thought it was the 18-year-old from earlier, but then realized it was the 16-year-old who was in fact her daughter's boyfriend,' Lehnardt's sponsor told deputies.
