My daughter's school although not mentioned but practice that. Some spray water on table, some wipe with cloths. Some sweep the floor, some wipe the whiteboard. Some arrange the tables, and some arrange the chair. Usually do this at the end of the day.

During our time, we call it recess duty, whereby we clean up using our recess time. Now children recess time cannot be touched, that why must specifically create the 10 minutes to do all this.

actually anything other than just study is good, the home econ class is the best, even boy can learn how to cook and saw.

thats true, i find technical class meaningful but not applicable. might be more applicable if they teach us how to change faulty taps, facelets or lightbulbs etc in school. skills that we can apply at home.

sewing is something i learnt myself at home before sec 2.

home econs - yes i agree its useful.

I recommend stand-by desk and chair at the assembly hall every morning. Children ownself carry. If not clean, samura and carry the desk and chair back to classroom, clean again, then bring back to assembly hall. :=B:

Twincharged

I thought it was always being done? When I was in sec school, we had to sweep the floors and clean our tables everyday. Once a week need to clean the windows. Maybe cuz mine is autonomous school so different.

why must do cleaning? no time to study liao still do these work that belongs to maid and cleaner?

Not just academic qualification, the Govt has just come to realised that scholars need to learn how to manage a broomstick to be all rounder, hence the reintroduction of classroom cleaning again.

Doesn't come easy or naturally hor. ....had a FDW who kept sweeping her own feet when she handled a broomstick.

My time have also in 60/70's and those days the chairs all using metal frame and always told after holidays must bring old rag; especially after long december holidays all our white pants kenna rust stripes for a few days  especially the part under the table frame and back of chair supports; I think must re-introduce now; kids think maids are everywhere and cleaning personnel are easily available;  Back in those days the servants in my primary school even live in the school in the servants quarters behind.

Hmm isn't this part of education? What so special when it should have been part of education?

We drove I to a wrong lane and making a 3 point turn that's all.

Not just make it daily. Have to add, those naughty ones and didn't pass their test go wash toilet. [laugh]

I heard that cannot make students wash toilets anymore, even if they dirty the toilets on purpose. Maybe because the students will say that it is humiliating, and refuse to attend school or get depression, then the parents will complain...

It's all part of the policy to limit the growth of foreign workers. Get the kids to go back to the days of cleaning and you can spread the cleaning staff out.

It shouldn't be because of FT growth that kids learn to start cleaning. If a student can't even do a household chore and take responsibility for their tidiness and cleanliness, what exactly then are we teaching our kids? Only to aces in academic? OMG OMG OMG

Cleaning and discipline should be done at home by the parents.

Otherwise, everything learned in school is undone, by the time they get home.

There's the maid to clean up after you, why bother to slave in school, when they should be spending their time learning and not doing menial jobs ?

Our time, it was rostered......
