that was what i did yesterday at cycle carriage

sit down, requested not to take loan but to pay in full

was told ok but no 'freebies' and need to top up additional for not taking loan

worse than zero sum, become 'negative sum'

They have their maths and you have yours. Just opt for whatever makes sense. Some towkays can get away with no loan and yet keep their discount and service credits but I think it is very hard as the finance and insurance companies are paying real commission to these guys.

Anyway, just take min loan (don't think 60% is the bare minimum and 5 years is definitely not the shortest available tenure), prepay the loan after 1 year, lose a bit of money on 7/8 rule but overall it should still be better than forgoing all those discounts and service credits.

There is no clawback for prepayment. I checked.

I remember it is first 3 years.

That's what you guys told me.

This add-on is offered when there is tie-up btw factory and insurer.

Just change to another rep. Why need to put up with the current rep if you are unhappy?

They have $500 rebate if you renew your insurance with them at 2nd year.

Tip: don't just pay up when you receive your renewal notice. Get a few competing quote first, wait for then insurance company agent to call you asking you if you will like to renew over the phone. Tell the person.you are still comparing other quotes....for.my case, they on the spot gave me a further discount which made it the best quote available cost for cost, excess for excess, goes back to C&c for repairs and of course 1 for 1 in total lost.

So if you have done your homework with knowing other quotes, you can nego further and mai tu liao and give the agent the credit card details to process.

The $500 cash cheque will be mailed to you in a couple of weeks.

That, to me is one of the seldom spoke of benefit of getting your merc from C&C.

It is foolish not to take their insurance.

My understanding is that it includes 1 for 1 car in case of total lost for 1st 3 yrs.

Thanks for the tip.

I think when new buyers come from other cars, there is some sticker shock. $500 for a service A! $150 for an air filter?? I see such reactions, but you also notice the majority of people I see at the service centres are actually folks who are past their warranty..

Of course there are those here and in other forums who ask where to service their cars after the credits are gone, but many of my friends simply continue at those inflated prices..

I can't say it's a bargain, and certainly when a car that's the equivalent in size of a C Class can cost 50-60k less (you can buy two Kia K3 cars for the same price), you can't say VFM when you talk about Mercs (or other such brands).

I would say C180 still VFM as compared to 2 Kia K3.

I feel safer to sit in C180 then Kia K3.

Service credit is the glue to stick owner who doesn't own research.

Read @vratenza post above

I meant to say the 1 for 1 exchange (if you totaled your merc, they give you a new one) is restricted to first year of coverage,IIRC. I switched back to my old insurer after year 1, AIG quoted me some ridiculous premium I didn't even bother to negotiate. Don't think the $500 cash rebate is possible as mine cost around the $1k mark. Good sharing. Edited by Voodooman

I think AIG enhances the 1 for 1 replacement in the event of total loss for the first 3 years now.

And this.... Other workshop think will at most give u a camry replacement if car in for repair...

$150 for air filter is pure over charging. Depending on model it can range from $20-$50 for most mercs.

Anyway to each his own.

Difference in parts quality these days are not that much difference given global sourcing. Rarely an auto maker makes their own components. Air filter made by hengst, Mann, Mahler are all approved vendors to Daimler.

These manufacturers also supply to other car makers worldwide. Quite some are still hesistant to use oem parts. I have seen an orig Merc air filter vs a Mann filter. The only diff is Mercedes part number printed on it.

Also just FYI to all.C&C does not carry all the parts in their store, they just like all other stockist order from the Daimler warehouse in Singapore which also supplies parts regionally. C&C like everyone else is but a mere authorized distributor.

Ordering parts from stockist is usually cheaper and sometimes even faster that getting from C&C.
