KIA Stinger GT

Kia has come a long way and I heard many comments from friends and relatives perceiving Kia higher then most Japanese car in term of improvement. That said, Kia is not aiming at the Japanese but German, that is why Hyundai Group hired Peter Schreyer and Albert Biermann. And Stinger is one of the product that receive mostly positive note and being compare left right with the German. The other would be i30N.

I do not think they will have problem matching the German eventually, let alone the Japanese but their challenge would be branding. I doubt Kia resale value will be better then Audi/BMW/Merc in Singapore so that's one of the deciding factor for someone driving the top German brand to switch; and for someone whom never owned a luxury German brand to consider it rather then the top 3.

personally i agree, but the vibe i'm getting in general is that people still think Jap cars are better than Korean cars.

This is only in Singapore.

If you take a look in Germany, Kia is doing much better than any japanese brand, based on what i saw on the road.

that is a good sign. if Korean makers continue to improve the quality of their cars, the perception in SG will change eventually.

Recently in Korea , I sat in a new K5 car..

If blindfolded, I could not tell it’s a KIA ...

A pleasant pliant ride in this car..

To add on. Just drive my friend new KE last week. It is so much better drive than a Altis. One word for Altis - boring. And if compare the equipment level, Altis is no where close. The aircon seat is so nice after we park the car under sun for lunch. Edited by Tohto

Just curious..

In this discussion thresd:

- How many KIA, or Hyundai, owners.. ex- or current..?

- how many in car biz.. KIA or competitor?

Considering a commitment.. n it's not a small one by my means.

So trying to get a feel of objectivity of the various comments, views offered.

I saw the K7 when i was there....swee....

Old reputations are hard to shake off. In a bad and good way. Juz like how many view Toyota as the bestest even tho Thai quality is sub-par to Korea

I would rather say it is old mindset that is hard to shake off.... haha...

My first car was a Kia Sephia many many years ago.

I've since had a Nissan, Mitsubishi, Honda, two Alfas, Volvo and now Lexus.

I've also driven a Mazda, VW, Mini, Toyota and Audi in my in law's family.

So it's a good mix I guess.

Personally I feel I am not biased, cos I believe every car has its good and bad points and its own target segments.

What I dislike are blind fanboys and over critical folks who just bash any car, anyhow without valid reasons.

On paper and photos the Stinger is really good. Now it's a test of "feel" and "connection" with the car during the test drive.

I am a fan of this car but I have to admit I dislike the design of the badge. An oval shape with KIA is just too fugly.

And I won't buy new too.. cos for high capacity cars it usually makes more financial sense to buy used to get a lower depre.

Driving a k3 now, must say it is an uphill battle for Kia to change people's perception. I hv colleague who asked me why buy k3, while the similar $ can get vios or city, I was speechless. However must say Kia quite ok except for fc, some concluded that Korean cars r heavier so fc not as good, I dun hv exact weight figure so can't judge.

not sure about kerb weight. But the elantra should come in lighter as the car uses more aluminum then the last facelifted model.

I owned a Kia Cerato for 10 years. Nothing failed. Zero repairs. Zero breakdown. Mileage almost 100000k.

Not surprised that Kia being No 1 in JD Power IQS for the past 2 years.

The fact that Kia's main focus is making budget cars, will continue to do so and hence the badge will continue to be perceived as one. A rebranding for Stinger with quality and technological separation would be helpful if Kia continues its venture into the performance and luxury segment. Not just change of badge like Hyundai Tuscan T, Toyota Harrier Eagle or King Long badge…  but a whole new Brand like Genesis (Hyundai), Lexus (Toyota), Acura (Honda), Infiniti (Nissan). I am sure it will help.
