If all you care is 0-100 and the 1/4mile, then yes. Obviously it’s much more than just timings.

Yup. There's the badge. It will take a long time before the Kia badge is better than the BMW badge.

i think it will never happen haha... if Kia can be considered on par with Jap brands then i think its good enough for them.

Aren't they already better than jap brands now? Nowadays, hardly encounter anyone that would assume a hyundai/kia is worse than any jap brand already. Only those who aren't into cars or haven't been buying cars for a long time would think that way now.

personally i agree, but the vibe i'm getting in general is that people still think Jap cars are better than Korean cars.

Not really yet on par. If you look at FC, somehow the Japanese still are able to design more fuel efficient engines. Also I find that Korean horses seem to be less strong.

I think it really depends on who you hang around with already. Cuz the older generation generally still have some bad impression of Korean cars. But the younger people tend to view korean cars as at least on par with jap cars already.

Old reputations are hard to shake off. In a bad and good way. Juz like how many view Toyota as the bestest even tho Thai quality is sub-par to Korea

The price of a used 3.3 would likely “Lao sai” until close to a 2.0 one. Not many will want to pay a 3.3L roadtax.

2.0 @166K?

Its Volvo and Infinity prices and maybe a Lexus IS 2.0 ?

As an after thought, when Lexus wanted to break into the market, they had a detail look at what is the definition of Luxury grade and car refinement.

But KIA obviously are not competing with Merc not BMW as its no where near there.

Probably a closer pitting against the competitor is the VW Passat and the Infinity. Then again, the Infinity is at 158 K?

Probably there are some room for face to face negotiation to seal the deal.

For those that have a deeper threshold of pain for roadtax.

3.3 is a niche mkt. Will not be a volume seller but its presence will signal to other car mfg that it is a up and coming power house

Yes, don't think they are expecting Stinger to grab significant market share from BMW/Merc/Audi at this stage. That would still be Genesis sub-brand.

Just to increase brand prestige and move upmarket. Seems like a overall Hyundai group strategy to target different performance niche.

Hyundai N30 - targeting Golf R/RS3/A45/BMW M2

Kia Stinger - targeting BMW 4series/Merc AMG

Genesis G70 - targeting Audi A4/C class/3 series

Agree with @t0y0ta.

Kia is carving out a whole new game here - offering C43 performance, with almost E-class legroom, for base C-class pricing.

Refinement/transmission is not at Audi/BMW/Merc levels, but is not far off.  On the flip side, reliability / warranty is probably better than the Germans.

Is this going to work ? Hard to say - badge inertia is not easy to overcome. But kudos to them for trying, and as a consumer, I'm certainly rooting for them to succeed.

Just a promo tip for KIA..

If they can include a free 3 yrs rd tax for the GT(3.3) model, I think some fence sitters might jump..

Say maybe for the 1st 10 units..of course, nothing is free but if packaged attractively with a promo drive, I think 10 units will be doable..

At least can see more Stinger on the road and that’s the main objective..

In a bit of a surprise, the Stinger beats the S5 Sportback in a head to head by a famously pro-VW group publication Autoexpress.

This is in UK where the S5 SB is only marginally more expensive than the 3.3L Stinger (48k to 41k).

"While the Stinger was slightly slower than the Audi from 0-60mph in our tests, taking 4.9 seconds to the S5’s 4.7 seconds, the Kia was actually faster once it was rolling. The Audi’s four-wheel-drive system means it launches ferociously, but the Kia was a tenth quicker from 30-70mph through the gears, posting a time of 3.9 seconds.

The newcomer was also significantly quicker in-gear, as the Kia covered 30-50mph in just 2.2 seconds. This is where it gains another tenth of a second over the Audi, which took 2.3 seconds.

Once you’re up to speed the difference is even greater, because from 50-70mph the Stinger was faster in every gear. In fifth it took just 3.7 seconds to the S5’s 4.0 seconds, and in sixth it set a time of 4.6 seconds. The Audi did it in 5.1 seconds."
