[Random] Why drive fast?

Fast is relative. How fast is fast?

For e.g. I regularly see bread and butter cars going at 80 to 90km/h on 50km/h speed limit roads. They will slowly accelerate and keep on accelerating. Don't thnk they even look at their own speedometers.

Then when they reach the expressway, they will still drive at 80km/h, sometimes hogging the right lane.

So are they fast or what?

When I keep to 60km/h (on a 50km/h road), I get overtaken by these cars, then when I am doing 100km/h on the expressway, these people are road hogging.

speed is relative and confidence is subjective.

But from an objective point of view, isn't it safer if you were keeping to 50 on that 50 road? Again, objectively, isn't it safer for the guy keeping at 80 on the expressway vs doing 100? Let's keep hogging out of this discussion.

Wah ur own words put u to sleep  [:p]

Fell asleep before I can finish,

My point on Why drive fast?
Advancement of technology create stronger, faster, safer cars.

Thus allowing people to drive much faster than say 60yrs ago. And much faster than speed limit of expressway.

Roads also have changed, more expressways. That are meant for people to travel faster without traffic junctions.

However, drivers must be focus on driving and not get distracted, not have the self entitled mentality that I own the road, for both speedster, tailgsters and hoggers.

That's a very difficult subject to answer. Like writing a thesis on psychology or sociology.....

Haha, I don't really do the braking game cos I received complaints that my bike's underseat exhaust is too hot (Ducati is just too hot for Singapore roads; Literally and Figuratively) and to hurry to the next destination.

Back to topic, my argument is that I can drive fast but with confidence and awareness, I can be safe as well (Subjective argument though).

I just drove back from Malacca yesterday with avg speed of 130km/h. While I was driving, the whole car was asleep. But when my sister took over, everyone of us were awake. It all boils down to vehicle control, confidence and comfort (equals to vehicle control).

Hope you weren’t on the overtaking lane.

On driving fast, I have this personal preference.

Some cars drive at 50kmph on a 60-70kmph road, some 80-90kmph on the first lane on the expressway.

I will try my best to overtake them (safely of course) instead of cruising behind them, even if they might end up behind me at the next red light or congestion.

Time is precious, on the roads, at work or personal life, and my efforts may be in vain but I need to try.

In life there is no sure-win (bao jiak), but that shouldn't stop me from trying.

Just a silly thought that drives me in all aspects of life.

Probably these folk feel that they own the road. They drive base on their own liking instead of with the flow of the traffic

drive safe is imported

If we import more drive safe than export more drive not safe, will we have a drive deficit?

I don't mean this as a personal attack on you, but this thinking of "my time is precious and I will try any means to get ahead so I don't waste it" is exactly why singapore has a high accident rate. Illegal U-turns, cutting queue at turnings and merging lanes, weaving in and out of traffic are all trigger points for accidents. The safest driver is one who gives himself ample time to reach his destination and follows the flow of traffic.

Agree on the illegal u-turns, cutting queue at turnings and merging lanes.

Recently started noticing a lot who bypass the filter lane, and do a left turn at the cross junction e.g. seletar dam and today, north buona vista road gg up aye Bec of the jam.
