[Random] Why drive fast?

Totally agree with what you said.

Getting old, so I believe in driving safe, follow the flow of traffic, and.........sometimes driving to me is

Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast

Ya I opt for smooth and safe drive over fast which won't make much difference for the short distance we drive.

Key thing is go with the flow rather than of trying to be "special" as we are sharing the road. Be considerate.

whenever my wife and kids are in the car, my aim is always to try to drive smoothly such that they do not feel headache/nauseous/uncomfortable which my wife sometimes tends to experience when taking taxi/PHV... driving a hybrid car helps too.

Many many years ago

Bullock carts are like 10kmph and horse drawn carriages were like 30/40kmph. That's speeding given horse max speed is 60kph, pushing did the max.

Now 100+yrs later

Improved Road conditions, tyre tech, car techs and safety equipment, vehicle system

Reaching 180kmph is a breeze on straight road. But rte speed limit is 90kmph.

Although i don't have a CO but i have to admit that sometimes i am quite a fast/aggressive driver. And sometimes i DO ask myself, actually drive so fast for what? The difference in reaching the destination might be 5 mins at best. In fact there are times when i am driving "normally" and i see those very aggressive driver cutting in and out just to get to the front but in the end at the next traffic light i am still just behind him or in some cases because he choose wrong lane i still overtake him.

So i can only conclude that driving fast for me is mostly for thrill and maybe also partly due to impatience. Driving slow is boring.

Unless nature calls and you want to PS or LS.

But at least when you are driving, you can still hold the shit for some time when sitting.

If I am standing in the bus, probably just shit inside the bus.

I thought otherwise. With mistress or GF, we tend to drive very slow so that we can spend more time with them. But with wife, it should be very fast [:p]  [laugh]

Haha of course i take it that TS meant driving fast when there is no reason to do so. If rushing for meeting, catch movie/flight or want to PS/LS then of course different story. In the past when inside bus, i will get down at the next nearest stop which has toilet nearby then alight and do the business there and then resume the journey lol....

Hahaha yes that's true....if i have a lovely passenger then my driving becomes very "safe", cruising on lane 2 or 3....traffic light yellow straight away slow down and stop.....

this reminds me of bike owners who bring their gf out for a ride and then play braking game :XD:

Haha, I don't really do the braking game cos I received complaints that my bike's underseat exhaust is too hot (Ducati is just too hot for Singapore roads; Literally and Figuratively) and to hurry to the next destination.

Back to topic, my argument is that I can drive fast but with confidence and awareness, I can be safe as well (Subjective argument though).

I just drove back from Malacca yesterday with avg speed of 130km/h. While I was driving, the whole car was asleep. But when my sister took over, everyone of us were awake. It all boils down to vehicle control, confidence and comfort (equals to vehicle control).

Fell asleep before I can finish,

My point on Why drive fast?

Advancement of technology create stronger, faster, safer cars.

Thus allowing people to drive much faster than say 60yrs ago. And much faster than speed limit of expressway.

Roads also have changed, more expressways. That are meant for people to travel faster without traffic junctions.

However, drivers must be focus on driving and not get distracted, not have the self entitled mentality that I own the road, for both speedster, tailgsters and hoggers.

Fast is relative. How fast is fast?

For e.g. I regularly see bread and butter cars going at 80 to 90km/h on 50km/h speed limit roads. They will slowly accelerate and keep on accelerating. Don't thnk they even look at their own speedometers.

Then when they reach the expressway, they will still drive at 80km/h, sometimes hogging the right lane.
So are they fast or what?

When I keep to 60km/h (on a 50km/h road), I get overtaken by these cars, then when I am doing 100km/h on the expressway, these people are road hogging.
