Zippaboy 4th Gear May 12, 2018 Share May 12, 2018 Maybe the problem is your driving skills? Some people do drive fast but also actually very recklessly and dangerously. They causes other vehicles to ebrake or take evasive actions. It is still possible to drive fast and be careful, keeping a good and safe distance. ↡ Advertisement
Aventador 6th Gear May 12, 2018 Share May 12, 2018 I think age plays a large part too. When I was younger I loved fast cars and driving fast. As I get older, I prefer quiet and luxurious interiors. Now I want the drive to last longer to enjoy sitting in the car more.

Roborovskii 4th Gear May 12, 2018 Share May 12, 2018 SIngapore roads can't drive fast, press accelerator a bit harder and soon someone else's backside will be in your way already. If you try to maintain being "fast" you would end up driving dangerously due to natural obstacles. It's better to drive smooth and safe. From time to time if the road conditions permit, you may try to "accelerate fast" if the NA sound is what you are trying to enjoy.
Jq1988 4th Gear May 12, 2018 Share May 12, 2018 Fast when alone so that you can concentrate better without much distraction. If with family in car, surely a lot of distraction. Fast but not dangerous which means accelerate when situation is permitted, like empty wide express way.

Lotr8445r 5th Gear May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 Driving fast is one issue. Driving safe is more important. If you are confident of driving fast and yet ensure safety is important, ignore what others say. You are the driver. Is there a driver that drive fast but believe himself has no confident? Can name one?

Jtis 4th Gear May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 So it really depends on the definition of driving fast. Strangely enough, i don't particularly like driving fast. But i really really like to accelerate fast, get up to a reasonable speed commensurate with road conditions, and maintain there. Some people term it as waste petrol to accelerate fast. But the sensation of acceleration feels more alive to me than actual speed, especially back in the days when i was still working the gearbox myself. But a problem sometimes is that fast acceleration is like an open invite for some road hooligans to come harass you.
Dark 5th Gear May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 Driving too fast beyond the traffic and road condition and what the car or driver can handle is certainly not safe no matter how confident the driver is (read: F1 drivers also crash given the best track and best car) However, driving too slow and not aligned with the flow of traffic or doing unexpected moves that other drivers cannot anticipate can be equally dangerously too. There are also some categories of slow drivers that can be dangerous to other road users eg. 1) Unattentive or distracted drivers who are constantly chatting with passengers or fiddling with the phone instead of focusing on the road. 2) Slow reaction drivers who simply cannot keep up with the flow of traffic. These drivers can sometimes disregard other vehicles due to their lack of multitasking ability or slow down to a crawl just to make a turn on the main road. 3) Drivers who don't see the need to comply with the flow of traffic or simply drive in their own world either deliberately or due to lack of awareness. These are typically the lane 1 hogs that you see on the road everyday. To me driving is an interactive activity whereby you are constantly interacting with other road users just like when you are walking on the streets. Driving schools teach us to be individualistic drivers by focusing on hard driving skills and traffic rules but do not explain these principles.

More cars get to cross. ALTK Turbocharged May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 (edited) The driver can be confident that he drive fast but doesn’t care much about safety.Ya lor...drive fast oso must take care of the “others” feeling. Somehow...driving is like... ... ...piak piak... Men always like to go fast...and women always to complain “too fast”... No matter how safe u do it ... “accident” still can happen... Once accident happened...u’ll be in big trouble... Edited May 13, 2018 by ALTK
Mahjong74 Supercharged May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 The safest way to drive is to go with the flow of traffic keeping an appropriate distance and not making sudden unpredictable moves and always be alert and focus 100% on the road and interact with other vehicles by signaling and using car "body language" (you are not alone on the road). If everyone follows this principle, there will be no impatient overtakes, no sudden manoeurvres to avoid, no fights, no accidents, etc. The problem starts when one driver thinks he can drive at his own pace or change lane without consideration or respect for other road users. One action can cause a reaction which in turns cause another reaction leading to a chain reaction. This is what we see on the road today, Totally agree with what you said. Getting old, so I believe in driving safe, follow the flow of traffic, and.........sometimes driving to me is Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast
Ct3833 Supersonic May 13, 2018 Share May 13, 2018 (edited) Fast and slow is subjective. But if a pssenger consistently feel being unsafe in a particular car and feels that the driver is driving too fast, then the driver has to review his driving style. Some may argue that one will feel insecure when he is not in control of the steering wheel, which i dont disagree, but think about it again, how many times do we feel unsafe when we are travelling in a cab, a uber or a firend's car. That would be a good yardstick for self reflection. I am not talking about exception case of being passenger of those hell driver situations but in general term how often do we feel unsafe being a passenger. Conversely, if a passenger feels unsafe in every car he/she is in, then the problem is with that passenger. The other aspect is, while one may think he is in control and his car could handle up to certain situation, but dont forget others on the road may screw up, driving on the is not about the driver alone. Moreover, his perception of being in control and his judgement about his driving ability may not be necessarily be correct. Lastly let me quote a sad tragedy, Paul Walker was travelling in possibly one of the best performance car money can buy in the world, but he died of car accieent, i dont think his driver friend felt that he could not handle the porsch before the accident.
