Quite true, taxi and PHV might have higher risk cause you dont know how often the driver clean and disinfect their car? I rather take bus/mrt. Esp now the mrt and bus crowds still have not back to pre-covid days. Although can see many people on public transport la.

I was told there is no social distancing on our MRT and during peak hours and it is impossible to keep a distance of 1m. I think taxi and PHV should still be lower risk. You and the driver vs you and at least 30 other train commuters (in a cabin).

My sis has been taking taxi since Covid started and yes, she asked to wind down the windows.

retrenchments in a depression come in  waves

at least 3 waves

we haven't see 1st wave yet

currently we are seeing ripples because of government wage support.

A neighbour is a pilot. Drives a Merc. Today saw that he has the private hire decal on his car. Times are tough for everyone.  Need to do what needs to be done.

Pilot now is not flying unless he fly cargo plane. So it make sense to drive private hire temporarily until he could resume flying when more routes are resumed. So well.. No choice..

Dyson that shifted hq here to Singapore not too long ago also plan to cut jobs. Hope not a lot of locals here are affected.

The number of such people is not a lot actually. Based on my driving, many days not even one of them asked me to wind down windows, someday only once.

If the company have too many such management staff earning 5 digits a month, surely must get rid some of them, since i always find these people, their 1 month pay can hire many executive level or even 2-3 managers. Dont know why need to pay so much salary for that one person only? Lol.

Wait until you become one of these coveted C-suite level opicer.... by then you will think even one month 6-fisure celery also underpaid. LOL...

Fly cargo plane actually much less stress and more stable. Cargo will not fight or get drunk also.

Do they get the same pay/allowance? Down side is no air stewardess to bring the meals.... Maybe they get paid more as compensation!

True, all those earning 5 digits a month management staff would never find that their salary is overpaid. But they always think their staff salary is overpaid.

Those 6 digit a month ones often feel even more under compensated, thinking they are serving/sacrificing hor!

Not in this industry, but reckon that it all depends... on various factors, flight experience and hours, routes, aircraft type etc... The end result may just be not much different. Generally, cargo plane pilots are much well-rested than passenger plane pilots as rostering is different.

Ya lo, cause these management staff would tell you that their job responsibility is very high, needs to make many important decision, have tons of works to do, cannot knock off on time and busy attending many meeting etc. So if their 5 digits pay is on the low side, confirm cannot justify the effort they have put in?! 5 digits pay maybe means must be at least $15k and above? Lol.

more important is how they count as singaporean

PR also considered as singaporean but cannot vote.

i suppose that’s the best part. All the benefits of been in Singapore. Better earned dollars as tax Low and different CPF contribution rate.

And can dust off and proceed to the next tour of duties with “local plus “ perks.

i believe if you rotate from country to country, the tax is borne by the company but is flexible on paid trip back home

my question here is have we arrived at a juncture in time for the next generation where whatever degree that you graduate with,  it’s going to be tough in securing a job because it’s just not good enough and the preference is always someone other than a local will be preferred options.

of course the medical profession and legal profession aside. What are the skills that the uni is producing that are relavent to the industry.

Once a foreigner become a PR, only first 2 years contribute lower CPF rate for employee and employer and from 3rd year onward. same CPF contribution rate as Singaporean. The only benefit is that PR got the choice of retiring back at their home town / country or retire in Singapore. As for Singaporean, if they want to retire in other countries, they'll need to pay for higher housing, higher medical cost and etc since they're foreigner there.

For pilots, it's really an unprecedented crisis.

From ferrying passengers in the sky to ferrying passengers on the ground...

What crisis? Good times make money for sitting around letting autopilot control the plane but don't know how to have some savings for a rainy day? How much does a typical pilot make anyway?

CORRECT.

Its like being a fighter pilot and realising that your team mate has an eject button in his aircraft.

While you, on the other hand are strapped in .. how cool...hopefully your rank and allowance both higher.....

Muayhahahahahahahahahahaha
