Don't know much about planes. But I think this is still better than their Su24 and mig29..

If Sweden offered the plane to the Ukraines for trials, I guess at least they will allow/approve Ukraine to have it be it purchase or donation.

Don't want any russian planes in the future. I think they are expanding their choices maybe because of the slow transfer of F16.. If other planes can be approved without the USA sooner, then go for it. They need all the effective weapons fast.

Will the Ukraine arrived sooner than F16?

Gripen is designed to counter Soviet/Russian Jet.

Ukrainian definitely welcome it.

Will be F16 imo.

Literally thousands in service, maintenance expertise widely available right next to Ukraine. Volunteer maintenance and instructor ppl available. Probably some volunteer pilots looking to get some action too.

Hundreds being decommissioned as F35 come on line. Immediate transfer available,  PLUS, financially,  donor nations consider those planned for scrap, so giving to Ukraine is "no cost", probably even cheaper than taking apart to dispose.  And .... very important... a vote winner too for donors.

Actually Australia has a few dozen F18 ready for  transfer too... not sure how that going. Maybe too expensive to operate 🤔

But couldn't help to feel the delay of F16 transfer is deliberate (by USA). The pilots by right should have started training like a month or 2 ago when they approved the coalition to work out a frame to give F16 to Ukraine.  But now we are hearing the Ukraine pilot had began trial and and training on the Gripen.  Sweden is not NATO, and the plane is Swedish, so I guess red tapes and opposition factors has less influence to transferring the plane. Though may not be their first choice. Who can say no to the transfer other than the Swedish gahment? Does Gripen uses USA tech?

How to destroy those bombers that launch missile far from the borders that hit civilian targets in Ukraine? Finally they got one, and this is more than 650km from the border.

If don't have the weapon range then a effective placed saboteurs is key. This is my guess since a quadcopter drone was reported by the Russian MOD.

I wonder our SAF special forces are trained in sabotages?

I feel that the JAS 39 Gripen is the Swedish equivalent of the US F16 C/D Viper.

My guess is, Ukraine gets donated 42 F-16s now from Netherlands. Denmark will probably add more.

Sweden might be encouraged to donate Gripen.

Ukraine might buy Gripen after the end of the war, since it's more suitable, probably cheaper, with less requirement on runways, and easier to move them around to avoid russian missiles.

Country around the size of Ukraine probably needs 200~300 planes. Since transition to NATO weapons, MIGs and SUs will be retired.

Netherlands (42) + Denmark (19), total of 61 F-16s to be donated to Ukraine.

Netherlands and Denmark to donate up to 61 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

The Netherlands and Denmark have announced they will donate up to 61 F-16 fighter jets between them to Ukraine once pilot training has been satisfactorily completed, as Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited both countries after months of entreaties to bolster the Ukrainian air force.

Denmark’s prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, said her country would provide 19 jets – “hopefully” six around new year, eight more next year and the remaining five in 2025. “Please take this donation as a token of Denmark’s unwavering support for your country’s fight for freedom,” Frederiksen said.

Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, did not put a number on the Dutch donation, but said the Netherlands had 42 in its air force. The country was already in the process of replacing them with more advanced US-made F-35s.

“Today we can announce that the Netherlands and Denmark commit to the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine and the Ukrainian air force,” Rutte said at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian president at an airbase at Eindhoven. The jets would be handed over from existing stockpiles once “the conditions for such a transfer have been met”, he added.

A clearly pleased Zelenskiy released a photo taken of himself and Rutte in front of an F-16 and was later filmed getting into the cockpit. In social media postings he added that he had reached an agreement “to strengthen Ukraine’s air shield”.

Unlike Rutte, Zelenskiy appeared firmer on the number he expected to receive from the Netherlands. “Mark Rutte and I reached an agreement on the number of F-16s to be transferred to Ukraine once our pilots and engineers have completed their training,” he wrote. “42 jets. And this is just the beginning.”

F-16s will not be transferred until pilots and ground crews are properly trained. The process will take six months for learning the pilot skills, plus about another four months for the pilot crews to learn technical English to the required standard.

So final count is 61 from both countries.  I was reading all the latest tweets last night, and can't confirm is 42 is the final number or 61..

LOL. that's how Ukraine gets feedback on the damage on the bridges by storm shadow or the Kerch bridge by drones or truck.  The Russian resident auto u0pload to the internet.

How are they hit? Mines, ATGM, Arty?  Quite accurate, as in the explosion is exactly on the tank itself.

Gripen specialty is killing Russian jets.

The Gripen has a radar that can see a Russian jet at 160km away and launch a missile

And the Russian jet can only see the Gripen at 120km away.

So before the Russian jet can get close enough to see the Gripen on his radar he is dead.

:D
