I worked with one boss who made a fortune in the project over a few years,  but cos many relatives worked in his company, he felt obligated to continue the business. So  he continued even though he should have stopped.... ended up losing most of the fortune again. 😔... too nice a guy.

Too bad, sometimes it happens

More importantly - he is the first if not one of the first success stories that didn't need to come armed with a degree. For a lot of poly diploma grads, it was a source of inspiration, and motivation, even if they got a degree in the end.

To my recollection, he looked a lot more prosperous in past photos compared to his recent ones, perhaps there was an underlying health condition, but perhaps he took up a more active lifestyle that resulted in the weight loss, but it is quite sudden to croak at 67 when you're at the cusp of enjoying the fruits of your toil.

Truly a pity. For all of you guys who are still slogging toward retirement, don't forget to treat yourself every once in a while because you never know when @RadX would come calling.

We have another famous tech inventor back in the days but has been going downhill since then

Don't think audiophiles buys creative products.. Creative products sounds decent but not really audiophile standard..

My impression is that Apple headphones are the gold standard but they charge double of what competitors (Sony, BOSE) sell which can do 80-90%....

Audiophiles are willing to pay the extra $$$ just to hear that 1-2% difference.. the final 10% of audio fidelity is the most expensive to achieve.. so someone (like me) who enjoys good music on a budget, typically spends ~20% to achieve ~80% of what audiophiles aims for..

To be fair, I don't think Creative was trying to roll out audiophile level products.  Creative products are aimed at providing decent audio to the masses at an affordable price.

Back in the days, I only want a Creative sound card because it was the best. Being a poor student, I could only buy a second hand one. When Creative enter the graphics card market, they were at some point, building the best graphics card, very good spec, highly overclockable and still stable.

As a aspiring electronics engineering student, Mr. Sim is a person who I hope that I can be like when I graduate.

Today, I still buy Creative product. I got a few of their earphones. Solid build, good spec and not too ex.

Lots of memory of you Mr. Sim. Thank you for your contribution. RIP.

think it's because they sold the building many years ago, and converted from owner to tenant there...

they sold the building to ascendas years ago due to lack of cash... i rem queuing at the hq donkey years ago for their warehouse sale... got myself a DVD writer and a couple of their speakers... but to be frank, its really sad to see how the company has fallen from its grace.... no doubt mr sim is a wonderful person and a good boss (based on what i have read)... but sometimes, u have to let go and get someone to suceed you and bring in new ideas. For the last few years, it was always half baked ideas that never really took off... years ago, he came up with the hanpad or something... then something about zii chip... all didnt worked out well at all. This is the key reason why creative shares shot up yesterday

I recall once he had to retrench. He loan his own money to the staff affected and told them, they need not return it if they dont have the means.

Those were the days. IPC Computers bundled with creative sound card and external speakers.

Anyone knows the cause of death? It is either suicide or cardiac arrest.
Don't think it is the former though.
Modern computer mainboards already have very good sound processors built into the main boards. Just connect the digital output to a good Marantz amplifier and speakers. Creative needs to venture into other products or technologies.

Unlikely suicide.

They said it was sudden and 'peaceful' so most likely some sort of stroke or cardiac arrest. This kind of thing can happen to normal healthy people too.

I think sound cards is no longer the focus for recent years.. they were rolling out more earphones, headphones, speakers and other products in recent years.  Just that this segment has tight competition from many competitors of diffent levels, hard to grab a big share..
