i dont think loyalty works now. The study is from the US where loyalty still matters as changing job can mean relocating to other state.

i do believe in retaining capable workers as these are the people who can survive anywhere, so it is important to retain them and contribute to the company.

Companies like loyal workers when job scope is routine and repetitive.....

Companies love loyal workers that's smart to help company save money.

Companies always looking for smart worker to help company make $$$.

Rewarding loyal competent workers come hand in hand with the ability to swiftly terminate those under-performers and replace them.

People often forget that.

I can channel more rewards to the loyal performers only when I can quickly chop away the deadwood.

This is stupid, in my context, I always have a yearly review of key players in the team and give them extra salary raise. I will always reward people who are loyal and dedicated than what being described.

A lot of ex-bosses only recognize 'relationship planning' and not how much work done when it comes to rewards and promotion :XD:

I know what you mean and I have experienced that over many years. But now I run my own, I tell myself I cannot do that. I gave 2 of my guys a 20% raise over his normal 4% yearly increment. Justified to my boss that it only take up a very very small percentage of the profit and we can make it back if they are efficient. If we do not reward these guys and they leave for our competitor. We will be shit as they are able to keep the competitors at bay as long as I set the directions with them. My boss approved it straight away by saying, "Okay, you are responsible for it and you decide"

It is given. The best employee get 10% increment whilst the average 3-5%. If every year you get 10% the rest can go home liao. 3 years in a row, 30%, jump ship smelly 30%, no need to waste 3 years.
