I had Audi S4 (DQ500), BMW 140i (ZF8) before. In terms of smoothness, this J7 beats both. Not in excitement of course. And the FWD nature of this car + non PS4/5 grade of tyres means when you step on the pedal you get wheelspin at lower speeds. Go test drive and see for yourself. I still insist that it drives better than Sealion 6 DMi. Edited October 6, 2025 by Ake109 ↡ Advertisement

steveting99 2nd Gear October 17, 2025 Share October 17, 2025 (edited) Below is the average battery capacity of PHEV vehicles in China up to August 2025 (from CNEVPost). Can see the trend has been rising since 2020 and as of August 2025, it around 27kWhr. The J7's battery capacity is 18.3kWhr and this is below average. The J7 will not meet new energy standard set out in GB 36980.1-2025, which comes into effect on 1-Jan-2026 according to Car New China article here: https://carnewschina.com/2025/10/11/china-adjusts-nev-tax-break-policy-phev-must-exceed-100-km-electric-range/ All new PHEV's in 2026 will have to do at least 100km in pure EV mode (up from 43kms on the current standard). Even BEVs have to improve their energy efficiency in 2026. Edited October 17, 2025 by steveting99 additional text
Slowcat 1st Gear December 8, 2025 Share December 8, 2025 Dear all, I went to test drive the J6 and J7. Quite pleasantly surprised by both, quite like the drive. I now drive a ICE SUV. Anyway, I like to ask a blatent question. Vertex had given up distributorships before so it cannot be taken for granted that it will retain the distributorship. Is the batt warranty direct from manufacture? And in case the distributorship changes, how would the warranty be affected? Thank you all for any enlightenment. Not sure about battery, but if the brand does transfer distributorship, the warranty will likely transfer over also. Seat/Cupra transferred to VCS when they took over. If they are small manufacturer, they can just exit and act blur in the market. Chery won't lah. They are in the market since the Chery QQ days. even if there is a change of dealership, they will continue to support the customer. Is not just about milking you once right? Frankly , do you love the brand so much that you willing to deal with the uncertainty? Granted it is not a small brand as pointed out, there is no free lunch in this world. Is there no more worthy alternative?

For me, since we pay a lot of money for 10 years use, I'd prefer to weigh this carefully. Edit: I was told by a friend who is shopping for EV that for Proton, the warranty can be claimed in Malaysia too (I did not verify how true/false this is). If the local AD failed in SG, at least I know I could just drive across the causeway to get major issues resolved. Since u ask blatant question, u would want a blatant answer: Stick w an AD w financial muscle and track record of succesfully handling big brands So many small timers have come and gone and some maybe resurface under another brand leaving past buyers orphaned Your call

Unless you really love the J6 and J7 so much, else I'd recommend that you go for another Chinese EV brand such as BYD that offers you the peace of mind and also potentially better resale vale/easier to sell next time if you want to let go of your car for whatever reason. Maybe go try other comparable offerings from other Chinese brands. All their EV drives well and are well equipped for the price points. ↡ Advertisement
