Saaber Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 [reply] I am looking for comfort, quietness and of course grip in the wet when it matters (had a few close shaves). Which tire do you reckon will best meet my needs? 195/R15 1.Falken ST 115 2.Yoko A539 3.Yoko ES100 4.Yoko AVS DB 5.Yoko Aspec DB I intend to pair them with a set of 15" Superleggeras. 4 or 5 should be your choice..... Gdiking Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 This is a review on the AVS DB: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/yoko_avs_db.jsp Actual tire link http://www.yokohamatire.com/TireIntro.asp?TireID=8 Looks like a damn good tire! Good compromise. Wonder how much it costs.
Soya Supersonic January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Dun think AVS DB is avialble in SG yet.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 I've heard good reviews of the T1-S but haven't tried it yet. Pretty ex, at ard $200-$220 for 205/55 16". I have tried the R1R though and the dry traction is humongous! I looks and feels like semi-slick. Soft and sticky compound. Will definitely hear sound of sand particles thrown up the wheel well! Damn good on the tracks! Downside is that it doesn't last long, being made of soft compound and I believe it's wet weather traction will not be great, from the looks of it's thread. One thing to note is that while the dry traction is superb, it's not progressive and may give way suddenly once limit is breached. However it does take quite a lot of effort to unstick this tyre. Oh, another thing, fuel consumption goes down 5% - 8%!
GDIzen Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 (edited) How many version AVSes are there? From what I have seen, there's AVS Sport with the Y-shaped grooves while there's also AVS TW-1 which is the top-of-the-range for those slanted towards a blend of comfort and performance than raw performance...well at least that's what I read on Yokohama's web site. http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/asia/Englis.../singapore.html Edited January 8, 2003 by Bimmerfan8
Wymun Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Wow...I think the S03 for 15" costs about $120-130?? So unless the Toyos beat that pricing, I may just go ahead with the S03s... But certainly, the T1-S's do look nice and aggressive:-
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Sure looks comfortable! Any UTOG rating for this tyre? The AVS Sports thread pattern is more fierce, though! Thanks for the info!
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Price of tyre increases exponentially! The 15", being a popular size, can be very much cheaper! BTW, SO3 205/55 16" costs $200 - $230 too!
Cosx Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Thanks Soya, What is the price diff for the two at 205/50/16?? Strange that one of the type shop in Bukit Merah told me Es100 is much more nosier than ST115??? Thanks
RadX Moderator January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 True...the P6000s, 16", 205/55/R16 are $170 as opposed to $125 for the 15"
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Wait till you buy 17" or 18"!
Soya Supersonic January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Sorry bro, dunno the price diff. Twice bought as a package deal so never asked for $$ breakdown. Like u, i wanted to stick wif ST115 but they didn't have my size so had to go for ES100. Thankfully, it turned out to be a bit more comfy n quiet than the ST115 (even when compared to the OEM comfort biased NCT 5 - these really suck). Tried the Potenza GIII too, find them neither quiet nor comfy.
