Hi TameDriver,

I have given my review of the CX-5 in the forum. Have driven it for a while before I wrote the brief review.

What else do you want to know about the car? You may PM me and I'll try to respond as accurate as I can.

Have a good Sunday:)

I just collected my soul red CX-5 2.0 premium last week.  Nice quiet ride compared to my old Honda CRV 2.4.  Bose sound system ok, but cannot compared to my old ride ICE setup with external amp and subwoofer.  The GPS navigation system from Mazda surprisingly quite good (was using Garmin in my old ride).

hi fellow vezelians, i want to check. how do you determine if the auto start-stop feature is faulty? i've just collected my car about 1 week and half ago and for the first 3 days, the auto start-stop system is there. but as of the 4th day onwards, the start-stop doesnt seem to trigger.

any one can shed some light on this matter?

You probably drove too short distance during your 4th day to build up enough charge at the edlc unit. Or you activated start stop too often draining off the charge. Very common. Once you drove long enough to build up the charge you should have it back. For me, I usually deactivate during my first few km of drive especially if quite a few traffic lights.

Yes.. My PI just call me this morning to say my car will be scheduled for a recall..

Parts and labor will be free..

Did your PI say need to wait for letter or some form of notification?

There are many pre-requisite conditions for auto start stop to work.  On our part, how hard you press the brake, aircon temp setting will affect auto start stop.

but even driving a distance of 15km or so on highway, come to a traffic light also dont have. If i remember correctly, the circular arrow with the A doesnt even light up when i start the car up. I press the button also nothing light up. So could it be that it is faulty?

I always disable the auto start stop.  I find the jerks when re-starting too irritating [grin]

What is the meaning of turn off Auto start-stop function?

By default, it is turned on (yellow light off).

So if you turn off means you depress the button once (yellow light on)?? at the start of your ride.

Yes correct. Press it once so that the yellow light on the button is on.

I doubt disabling it will have any material effect. If it does, then Honda won't need to issue recall. Just ask everyone to disable.

I think the risk of fire is still there.

PI sweating... Trying to find ways to "reassure" buyers that there's some self help available whole they delay using the LTA and parts otw excuse.

Disabling it means that your car is not drawing power from the capacitor. Which means that you may still be charging the capacitor but you are definitely not discharging from it which reading from Honda's website seems like the cause of overcurrent when restarting the engine.

Honda has the responsibility to fix and replace faulty parts. Of course Honda has built this system in to allow users to make use of the start-stop technology. By asking them to simply disable it then Honda might as well remove it from future production vehicles until they can solve it.

Should another fire occur because of Honda's instruction to disable it and an unlucky person who forgot to disable it or a person who just can't be bothered by it doesn't disable the function, whose responsibility would it be?

Why would you guys want the auto start stop function in the first place?  To save some fuel?

I always disable the feature because the jerking when the engire comes back live is super irritating!  :a-t2622:

Just to share my PI reply.

The affect chassis no. will be notify by LTA and my PI company will send the recall letter to me to replace the parts at their authorized workshop.

I prefer not to be the first few batches to have the replacements fixed, skali the authorised workshop staff trial and error  :a-bang:

No right or wrong but it would take some months to complete the cycle given the sheer number involved.

During this period your exposure will be there (random - Heng or sway ) and the odds of it happening to a particular individual while very very small may not be at a standstill but may be increasingly more disadvantage with time . Bear in mind the clock has been ticking since car left the factory.

The fastest way to activate/charge up start/stop function is to off your aircon and fan and other electronic gadgets. Then drive for a minute or two without stopping at moderate speed.

The start/stop will not operate if you

1. stop while in extremely low speed

2. set aircon temp very low i.e., 19degree, at 25degree with max fan is harder to kick in.

3. maximum fan speed while aircon compressor is still working hard to cool the cabin.

4. other electronics (audio amp etc) that may cause your engine to work harder for electrical

These information was gathered from my daily usage observation.
