AN ONGOING legal battle between a Buddhist temple and its former business partner has thrown light on the big pay cheques and business interests of its top monk. A court was told that the Venerable Meow Ee, 41, of the Leong Hwa Chan Si Temple in the Novena area, had been earning $100,000 a year in the last few years; his bumper year was 2001, when he took home $660,000. The monk and his family are also said to own several businesses and properties. He took the stand last Thursday in the suit filed by construction firm United Fiber System (UFS) in 2005 against the temple and other parties - Hok Mee Property, Hok Chung Construction and a Mr Kek Kim Hok - over a payment dispute. UFS is seeking, among other things, compensation for an unpaid $13.3 million loan to the partnership. Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao reported that the Venerable Meow has stakes in four companies under the name Chia Eng Soon. Under cross-examination, he admitted setting up a company with his brother to help the temple sell covers for columbarium niches, but denied profiting from the business. Asked about his Mercedes-Benz, he denied indulging in life's finer things and said he bought the car while in his previous job as an army regular. The temple's dispute goes back to 1999, when UFS - then known as Poh Lian Holdings - financed a project with the temple and Hok Mee Property to build a columbarium. The construction company handed out advances of $15.6 million and stood as guarantor for a $24.8 million loan, but the debt repayments went unmade. Hearing resumes today.

Anyone can give advise if it is worth buying a 2001 BMW318. Not looking for fast performance, just like the look, feel, ride, equipment. Like to know what kind of anticipated problem, maintenance cost and replacement of wear and tear parts, fuel consumption etc. why 2001 model? 1. Prefer the prefacelifted look. The facelifted model looks to clean for my liking. 2. To buy one at scrap value + body and break even fast (due to high paper). 3. Never like the new model interior. The new model interior feels cold and simple/cheap for an expensive car, the old model feels more sporty, integrated and driver oriented.

I saw this ad for this car and wondering if anyone can give some advice on it. This 2nd hand car is selling at $24.5k, OMV abt 11k, registered in 2001. So there's high parf value on this. But I have some queries and hopefully someone can help me.. 1. Spare parts easy to find and are they cheap? 2. I saw the fuel economy chart and this car should run at abt 14km/l since its manual. Is this consider good? 3. If I drive the car for 2 yrs, is it possible to sell at higher price? 4. What kind of problems will this car potentially have since its driven for 5yrs? Thank you anyone who can help me on this. If anyone have lobang out there for a 2nd hand car selling ard 20-25k, please also let me know. :) Cheers!

I was searching for a new set of tyres to replace the P6000s that my car came with and found this article. The entire article is too large to be uploaded so I've provided the title in full above. If you want to read the full article, just do a yahoo search based on the above. It's a pdf file. I've attached the results. Guess if noise level is the concern, this study is as objective as they come. tyrenoise.pdf

Hi all MCF bros, just checking out something for my fren's dad. He is driving a 01' 1.6 lancer and recently he sent his car into workshop after discovering something was faulty. the mech told him that the ECU is damaged and told him to replace one. The mech told him a brand new ECU from C&C costs 2k+ (This crazy price i might as well get a HKS FCon!!!)and he is selling a 400+ 2nd hand one. I somehow felt he is being ripped off and was pondering how come the ECU will spoil. I'm not driving a Mit so I am unsure of the parts and prices. Any bros to advise??
