Seems like Dr TT is jumping into the fray to slug it out with the other 2 Tans after all. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1136687/1/.html Who could fill Tony Tan's shoes at GIC? By Leong Wee Keat, TODAY | Posted: 23 June 2011 0640 hrs

There is an article in 6 July TODAY on the successful and popular public transport system in a Scandanavian country where trains and buses are the main mode of transport for the people without the use of COEs to deter and control car ownership. The report says, to achieve this, the government in that country has put in $23 billion in the past 20yrs++ for public transport infra structure. Lets check if sgp govt has the same amount of money to do the same.... lets say if govt use the accumulated COEs collection to spend on infra structure for public transport, how many years of COEs collection is needed to afford $23b infra structure? For each series of car number plate, there are 9999 cars, if the average COE price is say 20k, this means $199,980,000, say $200m. From 2006 till today, we have SGL, SGM, SGN, SGP, SGQ, SGR, SGS, SGT, SGU SGV, SGW, SGX, SGY, SGZ, SJA, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L , M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, X.... about 38 series of number plates in 6 years. Total "revenue" from COEs sales by govt = $200m x 38 = $7,600m!! (2006 to 2011) this is enough to build a good public transport system over a 16-18 years period (to collect sufficient COE fees) comparable to that in Scandanavia.

I was wondering what work has to be done to a new car before it can be collected by its new owner. I guess need to install seats, change rims, polishing, apply for number plate and safety test? Anything else? Can a car be driven directly off the ship to a workshop or they must be hauled like cargo?

wHAT DO YOU THINK? Conservancy charges: Is HDB giving value for money collected? Tue, Feb 12, 2008 The Straits Times A RESIDENT of a five-room HDB flat pays $73.50 a month in service & conservancy charges and another $90 in parking charge. A resident of a similar-size flat in a typical condominium pays about $200 per month. But that includes water, electricity, maintenance, mandatory lift check, cleaning service every day, clean lift, pest control, pleasant landscape, security, security cameras, covered parking lot, swimming pool, tennis court, function room, barbecue pit, recreation events, managing agent fee, some surplus for sinking fund at year-end and so on. The HDB resident gets a parking lot and a not exactly clean environment. Is the HDB overcharging residents or is it not doing enough to get value for residents? My friend lives in a condo, pays $200 a month and get all the things I mentioned, while I pay $163.50 in service & conservancy charges and for a parking lot. I get a dirty lift and floors. Furthermore, the HDB collects parking fines and hourly parking charges and keeps them. As a big buyer, the HDB certainly has better bargaining power than the condo. The $163.50 paid to the HDB is excessive. The HDB must explain how it spends the money it collects. Richard Lim Poh Chuan

Hi Guys , I took a day leave to collect my new ride yesterday and today, I'm on MC very very contagious - I must say. First of all , I must thank Bro Fiat 124sport who was there with me to witness this auspicious "handing-over-ceremony" yesterday morning and I was really thrill to the bone when I finally able to caress and fonder her(punto) all over. It is definitely a head turner everywhere I go yesterday....I can literally see it from the corner of my eyes that other drivers on the road are looking and as I'm still learning to handle the car , dare not take my eyes off the road. Accelerating and overtaking was a breeze eventhough she is only
