  1. 5 shortlisted names for baby panda at River Safari. Mandai Wildlife Group had invited the public to submit suggestions for the panda's name, and it has narrowed the shortlist down to these five names for the public to vote: Hong Hong (宏宏): Hong (宏) means magnificence (宏伟/宏大) in Mandarin, signifying well-wishes for the panda cub to grow up magnificent and healthy. Le Le (叻叻): Le (叻) comes from the old Chinese term for Singapore, "Shi Le Po" (石叻坡). Xin Le (新乐): Xin Le means new joy and can also mean Singapore’s joy. Xin Yang (新阳): Xin Yang means Singapore Sun or new Sun, which symbolises the brightness and joy this birth brings. The panda was also born in the morning. Xin Yuan (新缘): Xin (新) refers to Singapore, while Yuan (缘) means affinity/fate. Yuan also sounds like (圆) which means fulfilment. The cub was born after fate brought Kai Kai and Jia Jia together in Singapore. Votes are now open for the public to choose their favourite name and will end on Nov. 7, 2021, at 11:59pm. 😁

River Wonders' giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai to extend their stay in Singapore till 2027 https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/river-wonders-giant-pandas-jia-jia-and-kai-kai-to-extend-their-stay-in-singapore-till-2027 Kai Kai and Jia Jia arrived in Singapore from China in 2012 under a 10-year loan from the Chinese authorities. PHOTO: WILDLIFE RESERVES SINGAPORE Fatimah Mujibah PUBLISHED 2 SEP 2022 11:00 AM SINGAPORE - Visitors to River Wonders will be able to see giant pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai for five more years until 2027. On Friday, the Mandai Wildlife Group, which operates River Wonders, signed a deal with the Chinese authorities to extend the 10-year loan of the pandas. Kai Kai and Jia Jia, who will turn 15 and 14 this month, arrived in Singapore from China in 2012. The pair gave birth to a cub, Le Le, on Aug 14 last year, after many attempts to conceive. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore Sun Haiyan, vice-administrator of China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration Li Chunliang, and other officials attended a ceremony on Friday at the Giant Panda Forest in River Wonders to extend Kai Kai and Jia Jia's loan deal with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). In her address, Ms Low said: “Singapore-China relations continue to grow from strength to strength, and we are constantly exploring new possibilities for cooperation. “This extension agreement will enable Mandai Wildlife Group and CWCA to deepen their meaningful work on giant panda conservation, and is testament to the longstanding friendship between Singapore and China.” Mandai Wildlife Group chief executive Mike Barclay, who was also at the event, said that the group is delighted to deepen its partnership with CWCA and continue to contribute to giant panda conservation efforts. He said: “We have journeyed with Kai Kai and Jia Jia for a decade, from when they first arrived to making their debut in the Giant Panda Forest exhibit to ensuring they are in good condition for each annual breeding season. We look forward to playing a part in their further growth and milestones.” On Friday, the pandas celebrated their birthdays in advance. Jia Jia, whose birthday is on Sept 3, and Kai Kai, who was born on Sept 14, were given a cake each. Le Le, which turned one last month, shares the same enclosure as his mother, Jia Jia, and appeared to be in high spirits as the crowd watched him play with a banner and take tumbles. Kai Kai played with his birthday decorations in his own enclosure next to theirs. Under the loan agreement with CWCA, Le Le will return to China when he turns two. Singapore has been working with China since 1994 on the research and conservation of giant pandas. The Republic is currently one of 10 countries that have giant pandas on loan from China. 4. Wonderful piece of news! At 7.50am on the 14th of August, Jia Jia gave birth to her first pandaaaa cub! Gender is yet to be determined and will be announced at a later date. This is the first time the pair of pandas have successfully mated since attempts at breeding first started in 2015. That's six years of trying! But technically maybe only six times since they only mate once a year. Wah awkward angle ah. Feel so violated for Jia Jia. 😆 Another reason to go River Safari in the near future!

  8. Fifth Gear brings Fiat's best off-roader that you can currently buy to prove itself against the iconic Land Rover Defender on an off-road course in Britain. While the Panda Cross only has a little two-cylinder 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol that produces only 85bhp, its light weight and Fiat’s Torque-on-Demand AWD system turns this friendly city car into a very capable off-roading machine. Weighing only 1090kg, the Panda Cross also has an impressive 24 degree approach and 34 degree departure angles. So can the small crossover stay in touch with the Defender? Watch the clip below and find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgn2AG3WY-8

  11. Dye your dog China's latest craze: dyeing pets to look like other wild animals By Emily Lodish, Global Post They only look like baby pandas. These little bundles of joy are actually chow chow dogs that have been dyed black-and-white to look like pandas. Dyeing pets has been a trend in pet pampering for quite some time. At last summer's Pets Show Taipei, there was a fierce dog-dyeing competition. Check out photos. But dyeing your pets to look like other wild animals is a more recent development. The trend demonstrates how quickly and dramatically attitudes toward pets

  21. The Panda Cross and Panda Monster A consummate off-roader, able to get you out of a tight spot when the going gets tough. But also a nimble vehicle that can easily weave in and out of city traffic. This, in brief, is the dual personality of the Panda Cross that adds an extra sprinkle of sporting style to the Panda 4x4 range to make it a fashionable choice. A special version of this new car has already been developed: the Panda Monster. This special limited, numbered series will be sold in the same way as any deluxe product (620 units will be produced, to commemorate the cylinder capacity of the Ducati motorbike of the same name). The Panda Cross also visibly reveals the same gutsy look as the powerful Monster motorbike, beginning with its distinctive black livery and other black-painted style motifs: side strips, mouldings, roof bars, air intakes

  24. Read today ST classified and was pleasantly surprise that Panda is going for $52800 and Fabia is $54999.Both are within my budget. Of course on my radar there are also Aveo , new Rio , Matrix , Vios etc...(all under $55K ). I have been driving both japanese (toyota/honda) and korean(hyundai) for the last decades and felt that maybe i should give conti car a try but was always shy away because of high price. Any bro or sista here already/about to own the panda/fabia can share your view ?
