  1. This is supposedly the 3rd generation XC90, which Volvo decided to give it a name change to signify the switch to all electric drive train. Earlier reports, however, suggested that the model, which it is said will blend SUV and sedan design elements, will be named Embla, after the first woman in Norse mythology. Next-Gen Volvo XC90 EV Design Allegedly Revealed In Patent Images In any case, Volvo announced in February that it would be keeping the XC90 around for a few more years. The SUV that heralded the brand’s modern revival will continue to be produced in Torslanda, Sweden, after a visual update.

    X5 or XC90?

Am thinking of getting a pre-owned SUV. Narrowed down to X5 or XC90. Any opinion or owner stories to share about each of these rides? Me split between the two but the Force is strong with Beemer. Some questions in mind: - I read FC on X5 is not good. Some hovering at 5km/l? Some owners on newer models report higher FC at ~8km/l under assumed equal driving patterns. FC on XC90 seems better since it is 500cc lower. - Any ride specific pointers or issues to look out for? - What is your opinion of these 2 models from an owner's perspective? Enjoying it? Thank you in advance!

  8. This post first appear in Asiaone Forum on 9 September, 2011. What car? 2012 Volvo XC90 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_XC90 What is it? America was still reeling from the horrific events of 9/11. US Marines were pursuing Al Queda operatives in Afganistan, Saddam Hussien was still the tyrant over Iraq and Volvo launched a mid-size luxury SUV, the XC90, to worldwide acclaim. Yes, it was that long ago. The car you are looking at in these pictures is essentially the same one from 2002. Usama bin Laden might be long gone but the XC90 soldiers on and receives a facelift while Volvo mulls over its long over due successor. What is new?The SUV receives a new 3-spoke steering wheel, standard interior aluminum trim and a new instrumentation inspired by watch dials with white lighting. All 2012 XC90 has Daytime Running Light (DRL) fitted alongside new taillamp with dual light guides, LED brake lights and six-spoke 18-inch wheel in silver-matt finish. The rear tailgate gets a split function with upper and lower opening sections and an all-new load cover. There is also a new, color-coordinated lower door moulding and redesigned bumper bar in silver metallic finish. Executive variant gets soft leather seats with ventilation and massage functions. R-Design XC90 gets redesigned interior upholstery, new inlays and door panels. It also receives a ‘bespoke chassis’ with 19-inch wheels. Your son or daughter might have not remembered of the original XC90 if he or she's 12th this year. That's Volvo's mid-size SUV for you. Next year, this is all about to change because there is an all-new XC90 developed under Geely's ownership of the Swede brand as it goes on sale after this year's October Paris motor show debut. The second-gen XC90 sits on the automaker's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which will underpin all future large Volvos. It will run exclusively on new 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines and will be offered in optional front-wheel and standard all-wheel drive variants. Plus, Apple's CarPlay interface will appear on the XC90's 9.3-inch center stack portrait touchscreen.

  13. Hi there, I considering a family utility vehicle which is solid and safe. I notice that the price of a 2005 volvo xc90 and 2005 benz ML350 are about the same. XC90 is a much more common car on the road. Does anyone have any feedback about the 2005 or 2004 ML350? For about the same price, would you go for the three pointed star?

  17. Found some info: (from Volvo Press Release) Hot on the heels of the introduction of Volvo's first V8 engine at the 2004 Paris International Auto Show, Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) is proud to present the eye-grabbing XC90 PUV at this year's Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. And there may be no better place to show the audacious Swede than Las Vegas. Covered in a luscious racing red paint scheme, the Volvo XC90 PUV will keep the drivers of high-end European exotic cars glancing in their rearview mirrors. "This was such a fun concept," noted Vic Doolan, President and CEO of VCNA, "that we just had to do it. It could possibly be the ultimate Volvo. It has all the safety that Volvo is known for with the looks and performance of an exotic car." But a concept it will remain as neither VCNA nor the Volvo Car Corporation may ever offer anything like the XC90 PUV. Noted Doolan, "This is just to get the juices flowing; to draw attention from those who may not have considered Volvo before." Pushing the "Next Generation SUV" to the Next Level Once you get past the XC90 PUV's aggressive stance and fully customized body enhancements, a true beast lurks within. Still a work in progress, the XC90 PUV is slated to eventually achieve a whopping 650 horsepower through the use of a massive supercharger, revised engine mapping and low restriction exhaust. That power is routed through a modified version of Volvo's Haldex electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. The system is "pre-charged" meaning that power may be instantly routed to the wheel with the most traction. A new 6-speed automatic "Geartonic" transmission rounds out the driveline. Right out of the box, the production Volvo XC90 V8 has the makings of purebred performer. With 311 horsepower and 325 ft.-lb. or torque at a low 3,900 rpm the Volvo XC90 reinforces its position as one of the most successful SUV models in the premium segment. The new V8 engine marks a new turning-point in Volvo Cars

  19. Volvo XC90 and BMW X5L: The sludge match By Autocar Buy one and your life will almost certainly be made easier Let's get two things straight right away. First, the non-off-roading off-roader may be the most maligned of motoring breeds, but it's also one of the most bought. We're converts; you need to have driven a big four-wheel drive around town to get the appeal of sitting high above traffic, unfazed by kerbs, with seats, space, cupholders and cubbyholes only a people carrier can match, yet without the dowdy image. We're not going to debate whether you should buy one; your life will almost certainly be made easier if you do. Second, this test won't give much weight to these cars' ability to scale Scafell Pike. Only a tiny minority of those sold in the UK will even venture onto its foothills. Plainly, this hands a clear advantage to the two cars you really want to read about - the XC90 and the BMW X5 - as well as the Mercedes ML. But it will be instructive to see if there's any point buying a capable off-roader for road use; as we'll see, the Volvo, BMW and Mercedes don't get it all their own way. Buy one of these and practicality and ease are clearly more important to you than lap times; they make most sense with the economy and lazy low-revs urge of a diesel, so that's how we've specified them. The XC90 immediately looks impressive; for your
