  1. Renault plans to cut 7,500 jobs in France by 2016 as a result of declining sales in Europe. This represents 17 percent of its current workforce in the country. The company would achieve its target mainly by not replacing retiring workers and by offering early retirement. The French carmaker's sales in Europe sank 19% between January to November 2012, which is the steepest among major car manufacturers in the region. The plan would save Renault 400 million euros a year in annual fixed cost, which is required to lower its break-even point. Despite the reduction in workforce, CEO Carlos Ghosn announced that no plants in France will be closed. Year 2012 is tough but 2013 is not expected to be smooth riding either. Carlos said at the Detroit Motor Show that he expects the European market to be "difficult" in 2013, predicting that car sales would fall about 3%, after contracting 8 % in 2012. Renault's action adds further woes to France's ailing industrial sector.
  2. Hi Guys, back in 2007, i've purchase a Jazz 1.4 CVT, with a 10yrs loan. Base on scrap value, i'm only able to breakeven in August 2015. But currently i'm able to sell off with little profit. Am considering to change to a 2nd hand Getz. With a 20k 4yr loan, breakeven with little over 2yr. And for the fact that this is a manual ride, chances there would be little problem on the gear box. any opinion on this? or any current or ex driver of getz? how is the ride and FC? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...259&DL=1420 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...254&DL=1420 thank you !

  4. Hi Bros, need some advise on downpayment amount in relations to breakeven calculation. Scenario as follows: Car Price: 43k Reg Date: Dec 05 COE: $15669 OMV: $19962 De-reg at Dec 2012 Parf rebate: 12975 COE rebate: 4700 Total: 17675.7 If loan at 3.5% for 5 years. How do I calculate the downpayment I should put so that I can scrap car to cover outstanding loan in 3 yrs time - Dec 2012?
  5. I was looking at my car plan and usage. 2 years later, my ride is 70K my break even point is 6 years as I took at 10 year loan. by than my ride's mileage will be 210,000 km given that every year I clock 35,000 km. Anyone's ride already over the 100k mark? How is your ride doing, still as splitzy or a little exhausted?
  6. Hi everyone, not sure this has been asked before, therefore please be patient. can anyone please share on how to calculate the break-even point for your car loan (rule of 78) versus the value of your car. for example, if i am on 7 years loan, based on the amortization of the loan versus the parf/coe (whatever) value, how to calculate at which juncture will you not need to top up any money and the dealer will take in the car at the loan value. I know all cars are different in re-sale value and also dependent on the interest rate, therefore any calculation will be great. thanks in advance. cheers!
  7. hi guys, i need some advise here. as i dont intend to drive too long, say 2-3 yrs, i need to get a 2nd hand car to break even. my loan period can be from 5 - 6 yrs. my plan is to get a jap car with high paper eg. 2005 period so i can scrap it at 5th year to breakeven. is my plan viable? was looking at a mazda, any advise on particular makes for good scrapping at breakeven? thanks in advance!
  8. When everyone talks about breakeven for their cars, I guess it's about the outstanding loan or full settlement figure being equivalent to the paper plus body price of the car.. am i right? Then how would breakeven be derived at? Many sellers or dealers mentioned breakeven in 2 yrs, 5 yrs etc. How did the number of yrs come about? Anyone can advise me more details? Thanks..
  9. hi bros, would like to clarify the breakeven for my gf's lancer sport(A), she bought it last year 2005 sept, the following is a calculation i made and would like to check if i'm correct, thanks in advance, oct 04 reg lancer, COE - 27500 (from OneMotoring) OMV - 15384 (from OneMotoring) Loan 42000 @3.5% for 8 years interest - 11760 monthly installment @ 560 after 24 mths, installment paid - (13440) outstanding - 40320 COE rebate - (16650) ( i use coe/10 x remaining yrs) Parf - (12692) from Onemotoring, 82.5 within 5 yrs interest rebate - (7056) from the bank agreement, 80% of remaining interest after 2 yrs lockin period Body - (3000) car's boot kena accident within 3mths, how to value it? 10. ok lets say we have a 2nd hand jazz going for $53k (nov 2002) lets say i down zero, full loan for 7 years... since this is the system of 65% parf, i estimate the breakeven would be about 3 yrs time? am i correct? thanks!
  11. Hi guys, this is one of the most helpful forums I had read. people are most ready with their advice. This is the spirit. The resale market will come back, there is a limit to how low the prices of new cars and the COE will drop, within the next 5 years, Resale values will be important, so making a decision to buy a new car now will need to take into account the resale value. Anyone out there who has a spreadsheet that can take into account PARF, COE, OMV, Selling price, etc and work out the depreciation and breakeven point over the 10 years of loan? If so, please email me a copy, much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
