  1. i'm looking hard at cars with a depre less than 10k/year and have traction control and 6 airbags. Another additional bonus requirement would have been preferably crash tested by IIHS (Euro ncap is unlikely for these asian vehicles) Basically to me, IIHS testing is probably the most rigorous and independent testing standard. So i would take that as the gold standard. I've not really bothered with AseanNCAP before but i guess still better than nothing. They don't do frontal overlaps from my cursory glance. So far i've short listed, a) Elantra http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/hyundai/elantra-4-door-sedan a pity that i30 has 2 airbags for it's price ... https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/hyundai/i30/27355 b) Vios - asean ncap 5 stars for all it's worth... http://www.aseancap.org/v2/?p=3919 c) Axio - has toyota safety sense - i'm guessing same as vios? - but additional bonus of safety sense. Can do collision mitigation braking d) Corolla just creeping in under 10k depre with the latest COE and finally a full airbag complement http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/toyota/corolla-4-door-sedan/2018 e) Vezel - has honda sensing as a 1k option - doesn't do well for a small overlap but still G for moderate overlap - but with the honda sensing, that would avoid some easily avoidable frontal collisions http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/honda/hr-v-4-door-suv If there's any model i missed out. do let me know. mitubishi attrage has supposedly 6 airbags, but i can't find any crash testing data.
  2. My picks.. Bank outperformance of the STI Targets: DBS S$16.70; OCBC S$9.40; UOB S$22.05. Improving YoY GDP growth until 1Q 2010, and ample liquidity, suggests one more leg of performance as the STI prices in 2010E bank earnings, ROE improvements. 2Q 2010 GDP momentum should slow as accommodative fiscal/monetary policy is reined in. Genting: $1.38 1) a bigger proportion of day passes; and 2) good response to express passes.
  3. Auntie seemed to be made the bad guy by the STOMPer. The young lady also not 省油的灯。 And now the whole Singapore knows the two of them taking part in the inaugural MRT Super Saliva Fight 2012 IMO priority seats are for the needy so please do not occupy them if you are not someone in need of them. Check out the 3 videos embedded in the website. [shakehead] From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...e_priority.html Posted on 19 Jun 2012 Auntie picks fight with girl despite being given Reserved Seat STOMPer Khair captured this video of a middle-aged woman quarrelling with a girl over a priority seat while on a train heading towards Marina Bay. The older woman had said she had a leg injury, which the younger woman claims she did not see. The older woman to take issue with how the younger woman kept 'staring at her for how many hours' after being asked for the seat, insinuating how she may be 'from China'. Later in the video, the older woman then tries to take a photo of the younger woman, to which the younger woman gets upset and questions why the older woman is 'causing trouble' despite already being given her seat. Throughout the video, vulgarities were continuously shouted at each other as the older woman accuses the younger woman of not having 'honesty'. The confrontation finally ends with the younger woman alighting at her stop at Raffles Place.
  4. A cabby attempted to find fault with STOMPer Carol at a petrol kiosk for her parking too close to the taxi last evening (Mar 18). When a bystander came up and supported the STOMPer's cause, the cabby challenged him to a fight. The STOMPer wrote: "I stopped my car at a Caltex petrol kiosk at Jurong West around 7.30pm yesterday (Mar 18) for my two-year old daughter to drop off her dad's mail into the letter box as she enjoys doing that. "I parked my car in front of a Transcab taxi and was about to head into the kiosk store when the cabby confronted me about my vehicle. "He tried to pick a fight with me for parking too close to his taxi, making his vehicle unmovable. "When I told him that all he had to do is just reverse as there was no cars behind him, he continued arguing with me. "Am I supposed to park my car three feet away from his car and cause a hindrance to other vehicles moving out of the kiosk instead? "He even challenged a bystander, who sided with me, to a fight and accused him of siding with a woman so I asked the bystander to let me handle it as I didn't want to get the other party into any trouble. "The cabby even told me I should pay him for his time that was wasted; I told him, instead, that he should stay put while I call the police but the quarrelsome man drove off instead. "My daughter was so frightened she was crying in the car. "Is this the kind of cab drivers we want on the road? "What if he lords it over a meek woman or a tourist? "Will let Transcab know about this and hope they do something. "I feels people complain too much over trivial stuffs sometimes, but this incident is ridiculous and totally unnecessary."
  5. So it is official, the Japanese are going for the F35 Lightning II. But with a shocking :o price tag of US$113m per piece, maybe only they can afford it at this stage. Not sure we ourselves can cough out this amount x12 times for a squadron, not forgetting the costs for corresponding training packages & associated weapons... [sweatdrop] Maybe we can, provided: (i) HDB 3-room starts at S$1m per unit; (ii) COE starts at $100,000 for Cat A onwards; (iii) Income/Corporate tax starts at 50% of disposable income onwards; (iv) GST flat rate of 20%; & (v) Levy known as defence tax of $1000 per year per resident How about that? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1172334/1/.html Japan picks F-35 as new fighter Posted: 20 December 2011 1010 hrs OKYO: Japan on Tuesday chose the US-built F-35 stealth jet for its next-generation mainstay fighter as North Korea provided a timely reminder of the region's potential for instability. In a deal estimated to be worth more than US$4 billion, Japan plumped for the trouble-plagued jet to replace its ageing fleet of fighters, Jiji press reported, citing a cabinet meeting. The formal decision, which had long been expected, came the day after news of the death of Kim Jong-Il sent jitters through the region amid fears a power transition could destablise the North's hardline regime. Tokyo was originally expected to announce its pick last week, which comes as China's massive military machine continues to grow and Beijing becomes increasingly assertive. The defence ministry had wanted the high-tech jet made by Lockheed Martin to replace its ageing fleet of F-4 jets. Two other jets, the Boeing-made F/A-18 Super Hornet and the Eurofighter Typhoon were also in contention. Previous reports said Japan wants between 40 and 50 F-35s. The jet is the most expensive weapons programme in Pentagon history and has been plagued by cost overruns and technical delays. Co-developed with British defence giant BAE Systems, the F-35 was the most expensive of the three models under consideration, with a price tag estimated at $113 million per aircraft. Japan initially aimed to acquire the F-22 stealth fighter to renew its fleet, but US law prohibits exports of the jet with the United States having said it would halt production of the model. Japan, which places its security alliance with the United States at the cornerstone of its foreign policy, has a long history of depending on Washington for its military hardware. - AFP/ck

  7. Hi bros, My ride is experiencing "knocking sound" when I rev hard and the car picks up speed. If I rev in free gear, no knocking sound. If shift normally at 2.5k for ever gear up to 110km/h its also smooth without the knocking sound. Once I drop a gear, rev shoots up to 5-6k and car picks up speed, the knocking sound comes in. Recently changed to coilovers but had same sound before changing too. Any idea bros? BTW driving a Getz 1.6M.
