  1. It's more powerful than the old naturally aspirated V8. [UPDATE] Additional images have been added, including those of the long-rumored GR Sport. In addition, the 3.3-liter diesel's specs have been confirmed. Newly released information includes an impressive weight loss of 441 pounds (200 kilograms) along with a lowered center of gravity. The new platform, weight loss, and more efficient engines will help the Land Cruiser slash CO2 emissions by 10 percent compared to the old LC200. In some markets, Toyota will sell the new Land Cruiser with a naturally aspirated V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Sales start this summer, but not in the United States where the SUV is being retired. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the most important SUV launches of the year, the new Toyota Land Cruiser is here. Well, not "here" as in the United States, but certain regions of the world like the Middle East and Russia are welcoming in the hotly anticipated LC300. You've likely seen your fair share of spy shots with undisguised vehicles, and now it's our first official look at the company's flagship SUV. Some would be tempted to say it's more of a significant facelift of the aging LC200 rather than an all-new model since the exterior styling takes the evolutionary approach. However, the 2022 Land Cruiser has been overhauled by switching to the TNGA platform expected to serve as the foundation for the 2022 Tundra as well. Gone is the thirsty 5.7-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, replaced by a newly developed twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6. It pumps out 409 horsepower (305 kilowatts) and 479 pound-feet (650 Newton-meters) of torque. Despite having two fewer cylinders, the pair of turbos help the V6 develop nearly 30 hp more than the V8, while torque is substantially up by almost 80 lb-ft. Thanks to forced induction, you get a lot more oomph in the low rpms as well as better fuel economy. Only this engine has been announced by Toyota's Russian division, but in some parts of the world, there should also be a 3.3-liter twin-turbodiesel. It's expected to have 305 hp (227 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm), although it’s best to wait for some of the company’s other regional branches to confirm the specifications of the new V6 oil-burner. The gas engine works with a ten-speed automatic transmission and helps the new Land Cruiser reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds, which is a respectable figure given the SUV's weight and size. Fuel economy numbers have not been provided, although a hypothetical US-spec version would definitely fare better than the outgoing model's EPA-certified 14 miles per gallon in the combined cycle. As far as off-road prowess is concerned, the LC300 carries over the approach angle of 32 degrees from its predecessor. The departure angle can reach 26.5 degrees depending on the version, while ground clearance measures 230 millimeters (9.05 inches). It goes without saying the Land Cruiser comes as standard with four-wheel drive, complete with three differential locks. The adaptive variable suspension (AVS) is also on the list, and so is an upgraded electronically controlled kinetic dynamic suspension stabilization (E-KDSS) system. Toyota has fitted the next-gen Land Cruiser with a more advanced Multi-Terrain Select system, now featuring Deep Snow and Auto modes, while the Multi-Terrain Monitor system incorporates an underbody camera. A revised Crawl Control system maintains the vehicle's speed while you are off-roading. The interior has been subjected to massive changes to accommodate a standard nine-inch infotainment or an optional 12.3-inch screen. Owners will benefit from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, and a head-up display. A powered tailgate will also be available, along with an electrically adjustable steering wheel, air ionizer, and even a fingerprint authentication system. Toyota's latest Safety Sense array has been implemented in the 2022 Land Cruiser and it includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive high beam. We will be keeping an eye on other regional Toyota divisions for additional information beyond what the Russian-spec Land Cruiser is getting. We'll update this article accordingly, and hopefully, provide extra images as well.

  3. <Aston Martin V12 Vantage officially coming in 2022 Aston Martin’s dreamy small body/big engine combo is back, a new V12 Vantage is coming next year The Aston Martin V12 Vantage is officially on its way for the 2022 model year, with confirmation a top-spec Vantage is set to return to top the current Vantage range. Destined to follow the well-trodden and desirable path of shoehorning Aston’s most potent engine into its most compact model, the new V12 Vantage has already been spotted in its development phase and so far promises to be one of next year’s most exciting supercars. Official details are still scarce, but we do know that Aston Martin will be utilising a twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine borrowed from both the DB11 and DBS models. Peak power is unconfirmed, but we suspect given the DBS’s flagship status that power will instead reside somewhere between the DB11 AMR’s 630bhp and the 700bhp of the DBS. Like all modern Aston Martin sports cars, power will likely be sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, rather than the Mercedes-sourced nine-speed found in the new DBX. This is mostly due to its location on the rear axle, which will also help the inevitable shift in weight distribution given the considerable weight gain from the V12 engine. We also know that both Vantage and DB models are due an update in the near future, suggesting that the V12 Vantage might introduce some of these elements, some of which might have already appeared in the limited-run V12 Speedster. This might include an adoption of the V12 Speedster’s dash layout, which is completely different to both the current Vantage and DB, incorporating more touch-sensitive control elements and a larger touchscreen interface that features a newer version of Mercedes’ MBUX interface. Exterior styling should also be given a substantial update to coincide with the V12 engine, incorporating new front and rear bumpers alongside a modern interpretation of the distinctive slatted bonnet that dominated the previous generation V12 Vantage’s aesthetic. We’ll have to wait until next year to quantify these ruminations upon its reveal, but the one thing we do know is that this V12 Vantage won’t be a limited edition, but rather a final edition, as Aston Martin has since confirmed that it won’t produce any more V12 Vantages after this model’s production run is through. With tightening emissions regulations, and the push towards new hybridised powertrains in its future supercars like the Valhalla, it looks like time is being called on this most iconic of Aston Martin nameplates, but let’s just be thankful we’ve got one more generation to enjoy.>
  4. Make no mistake. This isn't a simple tuned up version of the usual BMW 335i. In fact, it's far from it. This is an M3-rivaling fast saloon that can carry four up north in comfort at great speeds. And Alpina has done a great job with its new B3 Bi-turbo. Headline figures are 404bhp and 600Nm of torque from the 3.0-litre straight-six, which equals to a 100 more horses and 200Nm of more torque than the 335i This is achieved with the help of two smaller turbocharger, a larger intercooler, a better fuel pump and its own ECU. Why two turbochargers? Alpina says throttle response is much better and there is less turbo lag, which was what I felt. Coupled with the responsive ZF eight-speed automatic, the sprint to 100km/h is accomplished in a scant 4.2 seconds. On the road, the B3 is a great overtaking tool with all that torque. There is no question this is much faster than a 335i, especially when it achieves full boost. On that note, the turbo hiss is more noticeable now when driving hard. Alpinas have never been track cars and this is no different. The B3 is one smooth riding saloon considering that it is running on ultra low profile non-run flat tyres. Dampers are adjustable but in Comfort mode, body control is slightly lacking as the car can get upset by larger bumps. Sport mode improves things and with one of the finest steering for a saloon, hustling the car down your favourite road is a joy. Overall this is a well-rounded fast sedan. Some of you readers may argue that this is one expensive 3 Series but you do have to pay for the exclusivity. I cannot think of anything I dislike about the car other than wishing for a louder exhaust note, considering it bears the Akrapovic name. But then again, Alpinas aren't supposed to be shouty... 6. The success of the Mercedes-Benz SLS, which has sold 5,000 units since its release and grown to include a Roadster version and has paved way for the automaker to release another AMG version. It will be a smaller, cheaper version of the SLS, poised to rival the Porsche 911. According to Christoph Jung, development director of performance division AMG, "There is room for an AMG model below the SLS, targeting the Porsche 911. This is the next market for AMG, and we are considering what is the right package." "It is important to work on our brand and grow it. Look at the Porsche 911 - it is a huge success. They have done a very good job in evolving it over the years. Now, thanks to the SLS, companies like Porsche see AMG as competition. Everyone recognises that AMG can produce super sports cars." The car will be a two-seater and comes with a front-mounted V8 engine, most likely a development of the company's latest 5.5-litre twin-turbo. This engine would produce up to 500bhp, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. Expect zero to 100km/h in four seconds and a top speed of 297km/h. The model will also showcase some highly efficient features such as stop-start technology. The new SLS model would have to start at around 80,000 Euros in order to be profitable. A coupe is a certainty, and a roadster could join it. Photo credit : AutoExpress
  7. BMW's long-rumored four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine has finally made its world premiere on the X1 xDrive28. Expect the new powerplant to be offered in a variety of models in the near future. This is the first four-cylinder petrol engine to employ BMW's TwinPower Turbo technology. It also benefit from technologies such as double VANOS , VALVETRONIC and direct injection. Closely modeled after the Bavarian firm's force-fed in-line six-cylinder motors, it produces an output of 245 bhp with a peak torque of 350Nm. Its torque figure matches the 2.0 TFSI unit in the Audi A4 and overshadows the A4 in terms of horsepower. The 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine is hooked up to a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. Mated to with the manual gearbox, the X1 xDrive28 completes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds (6.5 seconds with automatic transmission) and hits a top speed of 240 km/h. In the EU test cycle, the turbocharged 2.0 SUV returns an average fuel consumption of 7.9 lt/100 km with CO2 emissions of 183 g/km. With the escalating fuel price, consumers may be pleased to know that this new powerplant requires a min fuel grade of just RON 91. I am looking forward to its application in the 5 Series and the upcoming 3 Series
  8. Having introduced the next generation 5-Series sedan, BMW's M division is now concentrating on the development of the flagship version of the series, the M5. The hotly anticipated M5 will make its first public appearance at the 2010 Geneva Show in March next year. The Bavarian automaker has decided to power the new M5 using the new 4.4L bi-turbo V8 that debuted in the X5M and X6M, ditching the current model's exotic V10 powerplant. In the X5M and X6M, the bi-turbocharged unit produces an output of 555 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 680Nm of peak torque, available between 1,500 and 5,650 rpm. In comparison, the current M5's naturally aspirated V10 makes 507HP and 520Nm of peak torque. Details on the new M5's engine specs remain scarce, though it has been suggested that the direct-injection V8 may be further honed, boosting output closer to the 600HP mark. The new V8 will not only be more powerful than the V10, but also more compact in size, lighter in weight and more fuel efficient with lower CO2 emissions. Along with the new powerplant, the 2011 M5 will get a re-engineered version of the BWM M3's seven-speed twin-clutch transmission (DCT). The new M5 will benefit from suspension, brake and steering system upgrades to further improve handling and driver's feedback. Recently, it has been announced in the news that Singapore will be getting a dedicated dealership specializing in BMW's M division automobiles. This new M5 will probably be the most hotly anticipated model in the Lion City's very own M division showroom. For all you M5 fans out there, probably it's time to start saving up!
