Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 Eh.. AGS cert and GIA cert, what's the diff har? Not many uses AGS in S'pore if I'm not wrong. Care to share where u brought your stone? Cheers AGS supposed to be of premium over GIA... only the higher range carries the AGS cert.. for example, Destinee, Brilliant Rose, Celestial etc... from the models i quoted, so obvious that i only recee the local brands..no point paying for the likes of Tiffany..once u wear, nobody will know unless u belong in the high society circle.. i think my Celestial one is GIA and not AGS. let me check and double confirm. ↡ Advertisement
Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 Tiffany diamonds are way overpriced. You pay for the snob appeal and brand, that's all. nah.. he's paying for the box and paper bag... nah,i think the most expensive is the chop "Tiffany & Co". Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 oh.. one more thing... Don't buy something so expensive or big that you are going to have difficulty matching it up for the next ring you are buying for her next time.. meaning: now you buy a 0.4, so the next one got to be bigger. and it get bigger and bigger, which is more costly than the next. Buy her something which is slightly better than all her friends is enough liao.. i agree, but i guess he is rich enough. don't worry.
Sabian Turbocharged May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 Why the hang-up over a cert? Granted, i'd recommend a cert for peace of mind. But that is as far as the "cert" goes. It is not going to boost the resale price nor add to its 5Cs. If you need a cert, GIA or AGS will do fine. Whatever premium (if there is) is from the shopkeeper to you. Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 Just to add 2 cents worth... Abt the hearts and arrows, how many facets blah blah...it's not the most impt. No one is going to look at the diamond under microscope when she's wearing it and go "waahh, hearts and arrows!". What's impt is when she's wearing it, does it catch and reflect the light well or not...cos this will affect the apparent size of the diamond (more bling = looks bigger). Cut and symmetry would determine the brightness of the diamond most, then the colour. Not a big visible-to-naked-eye difference for clarity once above VS1, ie. IF and VVS1..can the majority tell the diff? I don't think so. Of course carat also v impt....after cut. No point in big and dull diamond. All diamonds will sparkle under spotlight like those at the jewellers, but the good ones, like larry (of which I'm not affliated at all but I bought from there la), will switch off the counter lights to show that their diamonds will still sparkle under low lighting. Good luck in ur quest! correct me if iam wrong,i think the more cutting(facets),the reflection of light will be better.
Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 i don't buy just because of a cert. iam more particular about the design and specs. cert is more like an assurance though. nor do i have any intention to sell it off.
Octopus 3rd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 correct me if iam wrong,i think the more cutting(facets),the reflection of light will be better. Depending on how you consider 'better'... More cutting than the standard ideal cut (i.e. 57 facet) will produce more of those tiny sparkle, they're called scintillation. But since the facet area are smaller but more facets, those flashes also not as bold as those 57 facets, which can been seen from a further distance. So there has to be a compromise somewhere.... Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 yes,you got a point there. so the more facets plus a bigger carat is the best.
Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 (edited) since we are on this topic, may i ask those who are married or intend to get marries soon 1 question. did or will you and your partner be buying a new ring every year for your anniversary? if yes,did or will you trade in the old ring or just collect all the rings through out the years(every year wear new ring)? You pay for the snob appeal and brand, that's all. nah.. he's paying for the box and paper bag... nah,i think the most expensive is the chop "Tiffany & Co". so got to wear the ring inside out.. but how to har.. maybe can ask them to crave the wordings outside.. Octopus 3rd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 Not necessary true.... As I've said earlier, I believe cutting is the most important aspect... Generally a diamond with a bigger table gives more 'spread', meaning sparkles can been seen from a wider angle, but 'fire' will be compromise. A diamond with deeper depth gives more 'fire', meaning there's more of those colour flashes you see, thus 'spread' will be compromise. A diamond with more facets gives more 'scincillation', meaning there's more of those tiny sparkles, but light return may be compromise, looks good up close but further away it doesn't shine so well. Note that the above assumption is based on Tolkowsky ideal cut.
Turbonetics 2nd Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 if they carve it outside,i guess it will be more expensive. they understand the mind of those who buys expensive stuffs.
Sony 1st Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 i know of a fren who is getting hitched soon and she was flaunting to me on how much her bf is gonna spend on the wedding.. i casually asked how much she is gonna lose and guess what she told me? "why should i pay since he is the one who wants to marry me?" i deduce that if another guy comes along and could offer a better "package", there she goes.. i mean dun she want to marry the guy too? is it like a 1-sided thing? apparently she didn't realise the fact that the guy is spending money which she will have a share in after marriage.. Sony 1st Gear May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 but it really cheapen the ring if we just buy based on branding.. sigh.. the astute buyer will know it's a good ring when they see one..
Mubarakrashid Neutral Newbie May 2, 2007 Share May 2, 2007 some gals wont stop at anything..they always value themselves higher and better than the guy they are with.. for such instances, there's no ceiling price...therefore, priceless or in other word, no value? ↡ Advertisement
