Watwheels Supersonic March 18, 2008 Share March 18, 2008 (edited) I think u got it wrong. What they are saying is cheaper dan the previous 6x the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car. Only if it's Euro 4 compliant, if not it'll still be 6x blah blah blah. It's still much more expensive dan the petrol-driver car structure. http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/mot..._vo_tax_pte.htm taken from the above link: For Diesel-driven cars Special tax is payable in addition to the road tax. For a non-Euro IV diesel car, the special tax is 6 times the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car. For a Euro IV diesel car, the special tax is - 4 times the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car (licensing period up to 30 June 2008). Phasing Out - From 1 July 2008, the special tax is computed based on $0.625 per cc for 6-month, subjected to a minimum payment of $625 per 6-month. The 6-monthly special tax for a 1,600cc Euro IV diesel car (from 1 July 2008) is: = 1,600cc x $0.625 = $1,000 PLUS Petrol equvalent If a car Edited March 18, 2008 by Watwheels
Watwheels Supersonic March 18, 2008 Share March 18, 2008 (edited) Let's see how much savings for 1600cc diesel driven car compared with current(4x) tax structure. $1488(special tax) + $437(petrol equivalent) = $1925 for 6months $1925 - $1372(new tax structure) = $553 savings. yah-hoo... $1925/$437 = 4.4 times. knn more dan 4x ok! $1372/$372 = 3.68 times. Like that become 3x lor! Edited March 18, 2008 by Watwheels

Miles 4th Gear March 18, 2008 Share March 18, 2008 since VGS is bringing in diesel engines, why not bring in their 2.0 TDI 140bhp / 320Nm from just 1750rpm. I think this engine with DSG is more than enough for almost everyone, whether on a Passat, Jetta or Golf. tax wise, you pay $3712 per year roadtax+special tax, but get the power of a 3.0L car and FC of 14km/L. or BMW 320d 177bhp/350Nm from 1750-3000rpm (more than 330i's 320Nm) and FC 14km/L (compared to 330i's 9km/L) Roadtax wise, you pay $2380 per year for 330i vs $3706 for 320d... but gain so much from the fuel economy and initial purchase price. inlinesix Hypersonic March 18, 2008 Share March 18, 2008 Well, it depends on ur mileage. Hi mileage user will hav saving after payment of special tax. This is what i hav done using my current ka (1.6L) vs BMW 123d: A = 2007 petrol consumed (in liter) x current petrol price B = 2007 mileage x BMW 123d city fuel consumption x current diesel price C = A - B Total saving (if any) = Special tax - C Based on the above calculation, i did not save at lot. Because my mileage is not hi enuf.
Boyboy 1st Gear March 18, 2008 Share March 18, 2008 but still save right? in any case, unless u are boy racer, diesel pulls much much better than petrol engine. still lose out during all out chiong driving cos not so revvable. but for day to day, diesel anytime for me.. i had much fun with an old lorry on saturday. poor bhp but the torque was delicious. couldn't resist wheelspinning at traffic lights and trying to do donuts in a certain carpark didn't manage to donut cos not hiong enuff, but did leave some rubber on the road
