Watwheels Supersonic July 9, 2009 Share July 9, 2009 It depends. If on a track, I would drive a manual. But if on sg roads, I choose an auto car. Each has it advantages and short comings. There are also power lost thru the transmissions for manual gear too. So it's not like someone here say until like 0% power lost. Power will be lost thru the gear components, bearings, lubrication and other transmission components regardless of auto or manual. It's just that the torque converter isn't as direct and efficient as a manual's clutch plate. But auto cars nowadays have a lock up device for the torque converter for better and more direct transmission. Gears have increased to 5 speed or more. I believe those who mentioned bad about autogear are mostly 4speed and gear change is programmed for smoothness and comfort. If you are looking at response and a more direct feel, of course this will not be your cup of tea. With better technology and more responsive auto gearbox nowadays and maybe in the future, the manual gear will be a thing of the past.

Carnut Clutched July 9, 2009 Share July 9, 2009 In Singapore at least, manual trans cars will soon be a thing of the past. Sad, but a year back when I was looking for an alternate manual car brand to change, found that among the Japanese makes, only Subaru, Mitsuhishi and Honda offer manual versions. That is the dealer's marketing decision. Some bring in a mix of both but some only bring in auto. But I believe they are targeting some groups of ppl to buy their cars whether they prefer manual gear or auto gear.

Quirky_ster Clutched July 9, 2009 Share July 9, 2009 I've been driving manual all my 12 years of driving... luv every minute of it.. except when my knee hurts badly.. but with my current off peak car, the Skoda Roomster 6 speed auto is really something.. it do feels manual in acceleration and drop gear feel.. a tap on the accelerator will go to the right gear ratio.. like it can go from 5 to 3 or 6 to 4... it gives such a nice toque feel to it... just like manual... perhaps it's the 6 gear thingy.. such that all the other gears are spaced closer and shorter... Yes manual driving is best.. but with the new 6 gear or 7 gear DSG thingy.. it's finalyl something that may convert me over... :)

Ahleebaabaa Neutral Newbie July 9, 2009 Share July 9, 2009 Mine is 1.3M but it feels good to be able to pace cars that are more ex than mine. Maybe they are auto cars. That's the essence of driving a manual man... Can even let the big cars smell smoke at the traffic lights if you move faster

Ahleebaabaa Neutral Newbie July 9, 2009 Share July 9, 2009 I think alot of people just want to take the easy way out. In America, most are auto whereas in Europe, most are manual. I think the European are much better drivers. I went to Holland recently and my US colleague was forced to drive a manual car we rented. He was totally clueless...
