5w-40 HTHS most likely around 4.

5w-30 HTHS around 3.5.

Where got too thin?

Use what is spec’d for your vehicle (if engine is not modified) as stated in the manual, won’t go wrong. Why worry about thin or thick?

my vehicle manual states

20w-40

15w-40

10w-40

10w-30

5w-30

0w-20

so I have been using 5w-40 for 10 over years without an issue. Due to our climate the front number doesn’t matter much

For Japanese car (even COE car), xw-40 is too heavy for the engine.

xw-30 is just nice.

Yah.

My XT at 150k I continue using Castrol Edge 5W30. Will be doing 160k end f the month and continue use same grade. This is th oil thickness recommended by Subaru.

Engine still as smooth as new and oil temperature still maintain stable.

After MX Trading close shop. Any place to get cheap and good EO?

Lynlex used to be cheaper and they had clearance sometimes. But now everyone is expensive. Castro edge 5w30 was selling at $7.50 in 1L bottles
