MAZDA 6

i noticed that my 6 is wayy eager to get off the line than my integra

still needs to get used to, the accelerator pedal needs only an extremely light tap for the car to move else the whole car jerks forward

 

after driving around for a few days i'm puzzled why mazda can't sell its cars, there is nothing wrong with the car. fuel consumption is equal or slightly better than my previous integra, the car isn't as powerful but its no less fun to drive, the interior feels solid - even top gear recommends the 6 over the passat.

 

its perplexing why there are so few mazdas on singapore roads, for a car that competes against the teana, camry, accord and legacy, its resale price is simply dirt cheap yet the car is superior to everything else, probably comes in 2nd only to the teana

Haha.. those still think that way are really not well informed.. Just like the Nissan Sunny days.. all condemn Nissan cars jiak you.

 

It is partially true that Mazda 3 jiak you.. but that really depends the driver.. I have come across MZ3 getting 11-12km/ltr on our local road!

 

The 6 fuel efficiency is pretty much on par with any other 2LTRs car out there and it is quite responsive.

 

The CX-7 jiak you for sure, but the power you get can get you high! It is basically the same engine from the MZ6 MPS.

 

RX8 no need to say, Rotary, sure jiak one.

 

MX-5, for the fun.. what else can you ask for?

 

Overall, Mazda cars are known for the solid feel and firm ride. Quality is good.. but too bad the locals don't appreciate them. Take the MZ3 at a corner and you know what I mean.

im getting 10 - 11.2km/l on my 2.5 sedan..depending on mood =P i think FC might not be the best in its class,

and it isnt THAT quick from 0-100...the lighter smaller cars can zoom off faster.

 

but like how some people put it.. what's power without control?

the 6 loves going through corners, and i always feel confident going for the turn when arrow-is-blinking. oops...

feels planted >110km/h on the nsh and power is there whenever i need to floor the pedal. i feel the interior is...

i guess it might be the assurance the 6 provides which cause drivers to 'step on it' more often and thus...the rumoured 'thirsty engine'

 

above all, i just like how it looks especially when leaving the carpark and when returning to it =)

I bought a lau6 2.0 one and a half years ago and has not regretted since. The good thing about an unappreciated car(by the masses) is that the depreciation will be low.

mine's the newer version, power definitely lose to integra. the power difference is almost extreme even

but off the line the m6 will surely be faster due to the extremely low 1st gear. the car doesn't feel its weight at all, its 1.4 tons vs 1.2 for the integra yet the m6 feels lighter

however the m6 reaches 5th gear at only 50km/h, at 120km/h the rpm meter is already > 2.5k rpm

also while the integra is 1997cc, the m6 is 1999cc

 

logically the m6 should be a very heavy drinker. i've only pumped petrol once and i believe i should be getting around 10.6km/l which is better than my integra

this far at 1/4 tank i've managed to hit 175km which equals what others have previously posted, so i believe that 11km/l is possible. i believe on a full tank 650 - 700km should be possible

 

calculating cars from a depreciation point of view, my m6 should depreciate around 9.7k per year

the only other cars that can match such a depreciation would be the i45 which is ugly, and the kia k5 which is good but the only 2nd hand options are the lower spec versions. yet both the koreans have <20k OMV vs 23k OMV on my m6

 

handling can be tricky because the car is wider than my previous integra. when it comes to narrow lanes like lornie rd or bukit panjang it can be tricky. i'm not used to driving such a big car.

at high speeds (> 160km/h) the car does wobble around, not sure if its my car only but the suspension is extremely soft. high speed cornering (60km/h filter minor to major road, dual lane) is great though, i guess the wide body helps.

i don't regret getting this m6, there might be a problem on my car when going thru humps at higher speeds, there is a clong sound every now and then

 

lastly i'm not a bro, the m6's electronic seats can be adjusted quite high so it helps shorter people like me :)

i'm not sure why the seats automatically adjusts itself to some default position, so every now and then before i move off i'll have to press and hold my favourite preset.

i'm also not sure how to open the boot while the engine is running, the boot release button won't work until i switch off the car

you might want to send it to AD for checks on the suspension since you mentioned the softness and the abnormal noise over humps.

and the seats....

you have to preset a seat position into your keyfob as well: press and hold 'SET' (on the seat) and press the UNLOCK on your keyfob together.

there will be a beep and your indicator lights will flash twice (similar to your unlocking doors) can only be done with engine off and driver's door opened.

for the boot...

gear has to be in 'P' position while engine running for the boot release button to work

a few more questions,

- how much do you think mazda will charge if i sent in the car to them and asked them to do a full check up?

- what mazda forums are there? i've found http://www.mazdaclubsingapore.org/ but its very much dead

- it seems like the previous owner of my car installed an aftermarket exhaust system, understand that such systems will cause a drop in performance but does it affect fuel consumption too?

 

i'm quite eager to remove the exhaust system and replace with stock because it seems like my car has undergone sound proofing too, so if i can't hear the bassy exhaust then its pretty pointless to have such a system.

no idea about the price, but i'm wasnt charged when sending in my car in for a check before any long trips. there will be labour charges if there are parts to be replaced.

forum is pretty quiet, FB page (Mazda Club Singapore) is more active. just post any queries you have

i cant advise you on the exhaust, mine's pretty much stock =)

just want to post that the previous reports of 12km/l are indeed true!

i just pumped 40L after running 495km, was very surprised when the fuel pump stopped

 

still find it hard to believe that a 1.5ton 2L car can get 12km/l which is better than some 1.6L light weight hondas like the civic!

Glad there are still M6 supporters. I am also on a lau6 for almost a year and i find the FC very reasonable and interior is nice. However I feel the low end lose abit. but when i am on NSH 160km/h feel stable. suspension on the firm side and abit bumpy, don kno if my shock is old already.

My old 2010 Mz6 was way better than the current Camry/Accord. I never liked the Teana styling sorry... too big a rear end.

 

As for the Mz6 decent interior space, good boot space, nice pickup, decent FC and packaged with double wishbones in the front made for a very fun and eager car. Style wise, I prefer the Mz to the other Japs as well.

 

But their service was always a letdown. Small niggles with panels never fixed. Unnecessary part changes etc. Still.... I wouldn't have sold mine if I didn't need a bigger car.
