Elmo 4th Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 Hi all! Hope to get advice on claiming windscreen damage insurance. Just noticed a 1 cm crack but wonder if it is enough to initiate a claim. Just want to arm myself with some advice before I call up the insurance company as the policy doesn't state how bad's the damage before claim is allowed. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement

Go to a workshop that do windscreen claim. They will be able to help.
Salmon 1st Gear January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 Things to check before changing... 1. Would it affect your NCD? 2. Next insurance premium affected?

Elmo 4th Gear January 30, 2012 Author Share January 30, 2012 Thanks all for your replies. Mine's free replacement and won't affect NCD or subsequent premium. But have to pay for the sunscreen film. Since the size of the crack isn't an issue, will probably just find a workshop that can do it fast.

Jefkking Clutched January 30, 2012 Share January 30, 2012 (edited) 1st, check with your Policy for authorised workshops for replacement of windscreen. Pay windscreen access of S$ 100 to S$ 200 (Depends on your Policy stated) for reinstate of your winscreen coverage -- It'll NOT affect your usual Motor Insurance nor your NCD (Don't worry & no llimit of claim). Make sure the choice of your windcreen replacement specialists use the ORIGINAL windscreen (eg; Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi etc with tempered marks on lower left / right of windscreen). They'll also change the winscreen lining (Rubber) at one go (As old one will be harden and may cause windscreen leakage & wind noises) and specialty glue will be place between the windcreen and windcreen frame. It takes around 3 to 4 hrs (For very details & skilful work) and the glue takes another 2 hjrs or so for 90% dry & secure. (Reinstate of solar film was NOT include in the replacement nor in your Insurance Policy as it was consider as accessories) If you don't replace your crack windcsreen now, the crack will be expanded & may shattered too. (Depend the quality of your solar film of your ride). You may consider "Tuffif" (Also known as "Tuff-Kote Dinor") who really specialised in windcreen replacement for last over 20 yrs (It's one of the lists of authoorised WS for windscreen replacement by major Insurance firms) of whch was located directly opposite "Vicom" @ Sin Ming Rd. (Go am about 8 am & your ride will be ready to collect by noon -- depends on the speed of the new windscreen deliver to them for work carryout. No point go for windscreen repair (costs was between S$ 40 to S$ 100 depends on the condition) for your case as windcreen repair for "Bird" or "minor spider" crack NOT for line crack. Elmo 4th Gear January 30, 2012 Author Share January 30, 2012 Small damage can easily DIY. Thanks for the video bro. Since it is free replacement think I better leave it to the professionals. But the kit will be good for temp repair while driving overseas.

I will either go back to AD or your recommended Tuff-Kote ws. More likely to get original stuff I assume. Mine is kena some flying big pebble (I think) on the expressway, so it is just 1 slit but deep. Not the spider kind from kena golf balls so still can tahan a while. Just need to find a day that can get time-off to drop the car off.
