I'm considering to go back to an ICE car and have a few questions:

1. I've heard that you can't refuel ICE cars at home while you sleep? How often do you need to refuel elsewhere? Will there be a solution for refueling at home?

2. Which parts need to be serviced and how often? The car salesman mentioned the oil in the engine and the timing belt that need to be replaced, as well as a box with gears inside. What is that? How much will this oil change cost and how often—and what happens to the old oil? Also, these ICE cars usually only stop using the brakes—so the brakes wear out much faster. How long will they last compared to my current EV, which lasts over 100,000 km?

3. With an ICE car, do I get fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill?

4. The car I test-drove seemed to have a delay when I pressed the accelerator until it started accelerating. Is this normal for ICE vehicles?

5. I currently pay about $9 per 100 kilometres for driving the EV. I've heard that ICE cars can cost up to 5 times as much. Is this true?

6. Is it true that petrol is flammable?

7. I've heard that the main component of petrol is oil. Is it true that the extraction and refining of oil causes environmental problems, as well as conflicts and major wars that have claimed millions of lives over the past 100 years? Is there a solution?

8. I've also heard that oil has to be transported all over the world to be converted into petrol or diesel, and that these ships have damaged the environment in the past by leaking oil. Is this true?

9. I've heard that ICE cars are being banned in more and more cities around the world because they supposedly harm the environment and people's health? Is that true?

10. I've been told that these internal combustion engines make noise when you start them. So, if you leave early, you can wake people up.. especially if the exhaust is modified or is a supercar and if there are a lot of cars with internal combustion engines in the cities, the cities will become noisy.

11. Is it true that you can steal fuel from the tank?

12. How much range is lost in stop-start driving? I've been told that a car that normally consumes around 8 litres per 100 km can increase to 13 litres per 100 km in repeated stop-starting driving - I'm just curious.

13. I've also been told that the exhaust fumes are bad for you and that you'll die if you leave the car running in an enclosed space—like a garage—that's not true, is it?

14. A neighbour told me that these petrol cars contain about 40 to 60 litres of a highly flammable liquid that's pumped into a steel cylinder and then exploded to create expanding gas that moves a piston, converting linear motion into rotary motion. Why would anyone want thousands of explosions happening within a few metres of your seat?

15. A colleague at work told me that his car leaks oil. When he parks it, it leaves dirty stains on the ground, directly polluting the environment. How long does it take for something like that to happen?

16. My father told me—if you buy a diesel car—that you have to wear special gloves when refueling so your hands don't smell, and if you spill it on your clothes, it's horrible.

17. Is it true that petrol and diesel are so dangerous that they can only be purchased at petrol stations and not everywhere (hotels/parking lots/home/work)?

18. Despite technological advances, will I ever be able to refuel my ICE car for free using only the sun?

19. Would I be better off if I switched directly to horse and carriage? I heard there's a dealer called Cycle & Carriage that carries premium brands.

Many including me thought election year, coe would drop but it didnt. 😅 The bountiful supply from last year till 2029 seems already used under the cut and fill method to prevent current coe to go to 120k, 150k. I think coe will hover over this level of 100k, 120k over next few years. Supply may also be affected by pp who may decide to renew coe. At least of 1 of my friend is already planning to do so when his car reaches 10 next year.

The bounty crop COE was expected to be from 2027 onwards. Then.. LTA started to use the cut and paste method like u said bring forward from those expected COE deregistrations.

We don't see it going down as a result, and went up instead.

Since mine was expiring, I went ahead to change.

I also got a reasonable trade-in for my 8++ year old.

Imagine I drive until it expires.

That little parf rebate means I got to fork out much more cash when the COE expected to gone up even higher. 长痛不如短痛.

I think it may be also a result of years of complaints from car industry and end users on the huge fluctuation of coe prices. Well, we get the stability we all want now...~100k +/-. 😂

I had same thoughts as you.

and also factored in possibility of no more EEAI in 2030 when my car is 10 years old, since govt no longer needs to have incentives to offer since EV/hybrids become mandatory.

So the possibility of no EEAI + same/higher COE, plus now my car value is still inflated due to high coe (mine was only 30k COE), I decided to take the plunge now. If not, to buy a new EV with equivalent or more bhp than my car would be very much more expensive.

i don’t want to drive a B&B car that’s going to cost me 200k. Renewing COE would be the other option.
