Darryn Turbocharged July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 Then give it up lor... give up la... talk so much about how you dun need the PR and how u cant be a citizen... be a FT that is on WP or EP ! Best lah - give up PR and be on work permit, then people will ask, "so when you gonna take first step to citizenship, if not ready - give up workpermit and go home"
Jrage 1st Gear July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 (edited) anyway, good discussion.. Just hope it does not degrade to "PR" or "PAP" bashing.. just healthy discussion on whether this is a good move to protect singaporean rights and effect of this new rules. :) Darryn : hmm.. too bad you are a victim of this new policy. Darryn Turbocharged July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 Yet you are here despite here being not a winnning preposition? I see your reasons and I dun see them changing. THEREFORE you are not in process of becoming a citizen - you are a stillborn. Could you kindly practice what you preach and renounce your PR? U claim not to be a PR for the $ and privileges and u profess love to Singapore. Why dun you stop taking advantage of the country you love and be here on employment pass? Oh. You call it long term view, I call it milking the country you have a PR in. Potato - po-tah-to. As for you qn. Dun waste my time. If you care enough become a citizen and you would know. You dun have a right to ask me that qn just as I dun have a right asking a New Zealander about his countrie's domestic affairs. Even Angela Merkel has limited rights to the issues in Greece despite being a creditor. Know you place please. *sigh* Who said its not a "winning proposition"? Whatever the heck that means. On balance - this is where I want to be. If I had a different wife, who had family in, for example, Timbuktoo - that balance would change. If her family was in Timbuktoo, but I was offered a $53,000 monthly salary in Singapore, that balance would change again. If tomorrow the official language of Singapore changed to Chinese and I had to conduct all business in the language the balance would change again. If New Zealand said they were going to give me a $50,000 subsidy to buy a rural property the balance would change again. yeah, it's a constantly moving set of variables - but life's like that, you can't tie it up into one neat little bundle. I'm not affected by the new policy. Am not renting our HDB and have no plans to, and even if we were I very strongly suspect that as wife is a citizen, our place would be exempted anyway. So if you think that I am raising an objection from a "self interest" point of view - you are mistaken. The objection is more philosphical than self interest. I guess your position as a PR.. will attract unwanted personal attracks and the discussion will be less objective. That's also hinder you from accepting the fact that HDB is a form of retirement plan in sg case.
Darryn Turbocharged July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 are you sure that your wife can buy alone without your name? I don't want to go into a detailed analysis of my personal and family finances, situation and family structure and history here on a public message board. Suffice is to say, to be able to secure a HDB directly from the gubermint, for my wife and I to live in, and for the kids to grow up in, I didn't have to take up permanent residency. SLSAMG88 1st Gear July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 Next should be to tame the COE. The COE is fine as it is...less kuku drivers on the road, the better for everyone! But this HDB move is a long time coming - have seen so many PRs buy flats, only to rent them out, the Indos are as guilty as the Malaysians.
Jrage 1st Gear July 11, 2012 Share July 11, 2012 Banks giving up on no recourse loans, plenty. But do you know of a single case of US govt writing off housing loan during QE? Not a chance. Once a precedent is created, there will be no end to it. Bailouts are for banks, NEVER for mortgagers. Besides, think of the effects on SGD if they even think about it or the solvency of the CPF system. Just because the Singapore government has deep pockets does not mean they can do as they please. There will be consequences. The government steered Singapore housing into a minefield and there is no easy way out. 1) US govt does not own the ppl's loans, even if they do, it's not a big part of their entire ppty mkt.. so effective if they buy bond of the mkt is the same as improving bank balance sheet. 2) In US, more and more banks are taking the $$ that they get from the govt to pay mortgage to sell their property, instead of going into foreclosure. All farking CHAO AH GUA!!!!!! i have persona firends who are indonesians but they whole family convert cho Sengapore Lang i served ns and reservist with their sons Foreigners who are PRs and does not want to convert to citizens bcoz of NS for their sons are just not committed enough to want citizenship. They want the best of both worlds, get their cake and eat it too, and their bread buttered on both sides. In case of adverse situations, they can run back to where they come from. So if you think that I am raising an objection from a "self interest" point of view - you are mistaken. The objection is more philosphical than self interest. OK. So could you align your actions with your esteemed philosophy please. You are not moving towards citizenship and u are CLEARLY not a mercenary or parasite trying to abuse the PR system for personal gain, esp since you dun need it. Give up your PR to make your philosophical objects more than words. Make it an example a practice. Why care if people give you stick on WP later. You are Darryn the great arbiter of citizenry and foreign talent entitlement of Singapore! Take the step dude... move from being a philosophical hypocrite and become an example! Cmon. You can do it.
