Hi radx, my wifey just shared this official maybank link.

Exactly the same scam your wife and me fell prey. Impersonating of maybank and MAS officer.

Scam calls to my phone happened on 13rd Jan around 2.15pm.

----------------------

Quoted from the above maybank link.

Watch out for calls claiming unauthorised transactions on your cards

18 December 2024

We received reports of callers claiming to be our bank staff, who have been advising the public on the unauthorised transactions on their credit cards. The callers may also request to transfer the calls to The Monetary Authority of Singapore's reporting line. The purpose of these calls is to obtain account-related credentials that would enable the scammers to access your accounts and perform unauthorised transfers.

Radx, scammers apprehended.

Not sure the same group as my scam calls received on 13 jan.

https://mothership.sg/2025/01/malaysians-arrested-scams-target-singapore-residents/

Quoted.

In this variant of the scam, the victim would first receive an unsolicited call from a scammer impersonating a bank officer, typically from DBS, OCBC, UOB or Standard Chartered Bank.

The scammer would inform the victim that a credit card had been issued under the victim’s name, or that there were suspicious or fraudulent transactions detected in the victim’s bank account and would ask the victim to confirm these financial transactions.

Call transferred to "official"

When the victim denied knowledge of such transactions, the scammer would transfer the call to a second scammer, impersonating as a government official from Singapore Police Force or Monetary Authority of Singapore.

If it's an unsolicited call, never ever give any account info or password.

Just wonder why it is so difficult for people to understand.

But elderly tend to be too trusting.

Encountered a lame call today. Claiming to be from PDPC, repeated my mobile phone number to me and proceeded to tell me that my number is involved in scams in Malaysia.

HOWEVER

Caller cannot tell me what my name is, and is so hardworking on a Saturday evening, and can tell me sorry you can't call the PDPC hotline because it is after office hours

So.

Never ever give them any shred of information and be ready to hang up so you can call back at your own discretion to verify if the call is legitimate or not.

Elderly brain functions may not be as alert as younger days plus if have dementia would be easily manipulated and cheated.
