Doosan 1st Gear December 3, 2012 Share December 3, 2012 What we prob need to hear is the actual point of views from the bus drivers. Not just the china drivers. The locals, the malaysians. Like I highlighted, it's not just a simple pay inequality thing. Office in Wdland quite near to their dormitory, times to times meet them. it cud be one sided view fr them, but thing started over even small positive proposals fr them. eg a little to improve the living envirolment, management reply was: u hv to adjust yrself to the envirolment, NOT for us to adjust the envirolment to suit u. this is a template reply fr the atas management. spark lead to inferno ↡ Advertisement
Aventador 6th Gear December 3, 2012 Share December 3, 2012 I am not a fan of the PAP, some of their policies are disagreeable but however much I don't like them, in this turn of events, I strongly support a firm hand to clamp down on the trouble makers Some of you don't realize the deep repercussions of what has happened It affects foreign investments, property prices, your jobs and our social harmony The number 1 rule that must be enforced in Singapore is, NO public unrest. Now is some PRC bus drivers strike over pay, if we leave them be, next the construction workers strike, then we tolerate that, and Amy Cheong makes a racist remark, and the Malays protest in shenton way, then Chee soon Juan starts a protest down orchard road and we say that's ok This is not the path Singapore should go down, look at Greece, the middle east Arab uprising, Spain, UK and more. Some of you guys write flowery essays and talk about fighting for workers rights. Talk is cheap, when Singapore is in trouble , all your beautiful theories won't buy you food. The foreign drivers acted in the wrong way and threatened our stability, there is no question they are wrong and should be sent off. Anyone siding the foreign trouble makers are traitors to me. You want to fight for workers rights, go start a protest down orchard for better pay for our local toilet cleaners and old ah mahs clearing the dishes at the food courts - I will be there to stand shoulder to shoulder with you . Writing beautiful prose to support the illegal actions of PRC workers that have no vested interest in Singapore - you can kiss my ass.

And again another short-sighted fellow loses sight of the plot and miss the target by a long shot. Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you? Hilarious to see people totally fail to grasp what Vincent was actually articulating, and yet get so worked up over it. Was it Darryn who said that many simple-minded people here can only perceive issues as either white or black, and do not have the intellectual capacity to look at the various shades of grey in between? Such an apt description for this Aventador fellow. Like I said, the education system has failed us. Because it has churned out massive quantities of such people who can only see the straight and narrow. I'm just glad there are still intelligent, vocal and articulate people out there - and in this thread too, it hasn't disappointed after a long day - who are able to see beyond the lines drawn in the sand by the powers-that-be. Some people are so easily manipulated.

Lightbringer 6th Gear December 3, 2012 Author Share December 3, 2012 It still amazes me how people like to start their sentences with "I am not a fan of the PAP".... as if that qualifier somehow makes up for the gross stupidity and ignorance of what they are going to say after that. Which political party you support doesn't matters. If you're stupid, you're stupid. If you're smart, you're smart. And the same goes for what you say, write or publish. PAP, SDP, WP, NSP, heck, even that slipper wearing patriarch of a now-defunct political party - smart and intelligent people support all of these parties alongside the stupid and ignorant. Royho1979 Clutched December 3, 2012 Share December 3, 2012 If SMRT contravened any contractual terms, the china embassy would lodge a formal complaint to MOM. China embassy must have also read the contract terms and didn't find anything wrong. If SMRT indeed was in the wrong and the china embassy didn't help those china drivers, then those china drivers must do another protest against their own embassy. Please do not infer. Check the with a legal expert. What I said is a fact.. I didn't say the malaysians were better drivers, I said.....better service. Can a malay old woman ask the china driver for direction in malay? The chinese malaysian driver would be able to reply in malay. That's why I said the malaysian drivers' skills are better suited as they can provide better service. Like i said, a malaysian driver could speak 3 languages (english, malay, chinese or english, tamil, malay). I guess that's why the malaysian drivers are perm staffs while the china drivers are just contractual workers even though they're all doing the same job. You dun know that. You are guessing and using unsubstantiated guess as a basis to win an argument. I'm glad that the instigators are going to be jailed......Gd job Singapore! I cant wait for the day you are abused by your employers and have no recourse.

Lightbringer 6th Gear December 3, 2012 Author Share December 3, 2012 sadly, from this thread alone, we continue to close our eyes and ears. we only see what we want to see. and hear what we choose to hear. worse of all, so many say only what they want to say, without thinking about what they are saying. its not a forum, when we've all made up our minds. i need a beer. Lightbringer 6th Gear December 3, 2012 Author Share December 3, 2012 Manmaster is quite possibly a mamber of the "PAP Internet Brigade" or at least one of the propaganda workers working for the powers-that-be. One of their usual tactics is to feign ignorance and play dumb, continuing to repeat their same-old, refuted and illogical arguments when appealing to the emotions of the gallery watching, wearing down their opponents in the process with their sheer stubbornness. Do not engage and tire yourself out in the process with such people who are not open to reason and are not here with an open mind to discuss.

Sosaria Twincharged December 3, 2012 Share December 3, 2012 (edited) Many of us, I'm sure, have been in jobs where we feel unfair treatment, unequal opportunities, slow pay adjustments... the right thing to do, as we've all done, is to raise it to HR and our superiors as part of the normal process. If no action taken, then we leave the job for another better one. Simple! In fact, start looking for the better job while still secure in the present one - sure we've all done that Edited December 3, 2012 by Sosaria

BTW, have you bothered to read the article? Especially the part where Vincent gave a detailed account of how these aggrieved workers went through the due process and HR framework for SIX months without any redress? Because the way you keep harping on "the right thing to do" is telling me you didn't bother to read and understand the situation at all but instead leapt to a convenient and embarrassingly inaccurate conclusion... how's that for instant gratification eh? You also seem very sure that foreign bus drivers enjoy the same job mobility and options that an executive or management staff enjoys. Gee, I wonder what that assumption was based on....... Myxilplix Turbocharged December 3, 2012 Share December 3, 2012 Lightbringer no need to make attacks on people's intelligence lah. You can't shove an open mind down someone's throat. I know you want to strangle some people for being so obtuse (i also want), but to resort to name calling would just cloud the issue and close off more minds. Some of us are trying to be rational and make people aware that there are deeper issues to this matter than just the "illegal" strike by some PRC bus drivers, hence the posting of various articles, essays and discussions. Some people are so conditioned in their roles as worker bees that they will refuse to listen to any alternative viewpoint. I just hope that some minds have been opened, even if only a little and maybe some people have started to think about our world a little more than they used to. Our education system has not failed, i'm afraid it has done it's job too well. I do get a chuckle out of the doomsday massive labour unrest scenario that has been trumpeted in the press and that people are still falling for it. ↡ Advertisement
