if price is not the first priority, go fro Sony. Sony TVs are really good, but not the cheapest. Btw who prefer to wall mount and who prefer stand ?

Avoid LG. two of em kaput after only 3 years. Used my Samsung for the last 6 years Bo tai chi.

Just bought Philips for my new home. In terms of pic quality. Sony n Philips are the best for me....

My Hitachi plasma conked out after 5 yrs of service, so now I'm on the look out for a Smart TV but I realised that the TV technology has progressed so much I'm not even sure what I should be looking out for for my next purchase.

I have these general criteria:

1) At least 40"

2) Smart TV with full internet access

3) Full HD

4) Full 3D

5) Non-China brand

6) At least 3 yrs warranty

I was looking at the Panasonic Viera at Best Denki the other day but didn't commit because I hadn't researched properly nor do I think that they are offering the best price. Any recommendations?

For 47", i think Sharp gives better quality. And if i'm not wrong, it may still be built in Japan.

Smart TV no use lar, just hook a notebook to TV is much user friendly.

I find courts pricing quite competitive for TV, if no hurry, their display set are good value for money.

You dont need TV to last you too long these days..new model comes in every 3-6 months, so if it last you for 5 years, its time to change.

If you really want to get an Android dongle, get MK808 with RC-12 wireless keyboard.

Get them at Aliexpress, they are much cheaper than local. I got my set at $85

It is 3 years. My relative just bought one from gain City.

really?

Sharp is usually 1 year on panel, 3 yrs on other parts.

Of course it's unlikely the panel will give the problem.

Sharp panels built in Japan but most of the models are assembled in Malaysia (not sure if the parts are also MIM).

Viewing distance , check out Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=U...ocId=1000021501

13' = 13x12 = 156"

min TV screen size = 156/3 = 52"

max TV screen size = 156/1.5 = 104"

more relevant to american kind of entertainment room eh.

For a more technical writeup, wiki.

It is 3 years. My relative just bought one from gain City.

I am using Sharp. Already 2 yo and is still good.

My first 20" LCD is also Sharp. 9 yo and is still working.

But my 32" Samsung LCD, got patches of colours after 3-4 years.

For those who likes to change TV every 2-3 years, Samsung will be good.

Do you find that Philips LED "flattens" out the picture and makes all programs shown on Starhub cable TV as if they are all shot in a studio rather than outdoors? The whole program just looks very artificial (like in a sitcom setting). The same program watched on another LED (eg Samsung and purchased around same period) does not have such a problem.

Is your experience same as mine?

probably it depends on the upscaling of these tv models.

used to be cheap tv have very lousy upscaling.

My toshiba 37" is one example vs my living room's 42" panasonic.

But now with tv prices as such, shouldn't be.

sharp used to have terrible upscaling on the cheaper models, my toshiba looked better frankly.

the fast fashion make people change thing every 2-3 years, that is why they are coming out with more advance tech and cheaper now :D

Yup, p&p. If you are an Android user, its just like your tablet or phone.

I'm not an Andriod user.. but quite keen on this...

so don't have to go thru any laptop or pc?

As long as tv got a HDMI inlet will do?
