Kangadrool Supersonic April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 Gahment will never take up this challenge one lah. Too much commitment and investment from them while returns are not as great as churning out digital COE numbers at almost zero cost, but raping..... ooopps reaping $70/80K a pop. please lah, don't give Gahment this kind rotten idea, driving for fun than transprotation, unless many many on bus/trains I'll not go for public transport ↡ Advertisement
Hydrocarbon Turbocharged April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 Gahment MUST ensure public transport is tip top, crowd-free (no overcrowding/overloading, etc), bus/trains arrive at 5 mins interval even during off peak and MUST GUARANTEE all commuters a seat. Crowd free and guaranteed seats I don't need. I just need it to be timely, and reliable (no breakdowns / slowdowns).

Baal Supersonic April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 True. COE already make up >50% of car price. Those buying now is as good as paying COE full cash. Erh, that's putting it very mildly..... Eg, omv 15k. Coe 75k. That's 500% Tax. Add ARF = 600% Tax. And haven add in the profiteering AD(s) margin.

Roh96 6th Gear April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 about 1/3 on the road is 8 to 9 years Lancer, Sunny, vios, kio...etc, cost only 10 to 20k in 2nd hand market, alot of fresh graduates, restaurant waiters, China/India PRs etc can easily buy one, this is why our road so congestion Road congestion is not due to cheap 2nd hand cars. It is due to the mistake made by LTA with its silly projection method that release massive COE during 2006-2009 time. Bear in mind, they haven't correct the mistake yet. They only stop the growth, not cutting the population to correct their mistake.

Baal Supersonic April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 Don't know why when come to car purchase, ppl are all so generous. Paying tax, COE, AD margin. But come to petrol, can go miles across causeway to pump just to save that money. I would think its due to the high cost here that leads to that. However, even in the biking scene, even for bikes that cost 12k OTR (for those with >15 Litre fuel tanks) as of Y2k, riders were still going across the causeway on a regular basis for those staying in the upper north areas. And since most cars can clock >400km per tank, its not surprising in the long run. Its like if there are riders doing so for a reasonably priced/affordable motorcycle (back in Y2K) with 15L fuel tanks, what more for Drivers who are brutalised but have cars with 50L fuel tanks? Guess, in general, when things cost less than half the other side, there would be people who gravitate there accdly.

Its to beef up GDP to meet KPI. Tell me - how can scholar do miscalculation one ? - the 1st can be mitigated if they start planning now for Japan style parking complex progressively. Easier way out would be taller MSCP like Golden Shoe CP? - GDP & KPI aside, I also believe that it was to mask the massive influx of FT that was most significant during those years. Cheap COE(s) was like a decoy imo.... - And after the dust settled & COE resumed bau, suddenly Sinkies realized .....foreigner in homeland..... - Or if we wish to look at things in a positive light,......they needed to offload people from PT so that it could accommodate more FT. Since they are put SINGAPOREANS FIRST.......they decided to let more Singaporeans upgrade from PT to Cars first and place foreigners in buses & trains..... End of the day, in regards to the cheap COE(s), there was never a free lunch.......cheap COE(s) have left,......but the FT are still here to stay...... Just my opinion. Penknife 5th Gear April 14, 2014 Share April 14, 2014 well, the thing is, there are more than 9000 vehicles on sale, including vans/lorries but yet, none of these vehicles appeal to the people who are buying new cars COE is needed when u buy 1st hand, not 2nd hand. Therefore, we should look at how to make 2nd hand vehicles more appealing to buying new. This will shift the demand from new cars to used cars and ease the pressure of new cars demand. ↡ Advertisement
